Stomach pain in the afternoon (gas?)

I am a healthy 32 yo female. I do not eat greasy food, meat, smoke, or drink soda (I drink a few beers about twice a week) I exercise 6 times a week (running or biking).

This last month I have experienced lower stomach pain starting in the afternoon and lasting until evening. I am more gassy than normal. The pain is constant. Nothing dramatic has changed in my diet to warrant this discomfort.

Should I go see a doctor or just start taking OTC anti-gas medicine? I heard that raw vegetables make you gassy, should I cut out salads? Any suggestions will be appreciated!

  • After I posted this question, I read another post (larryJ) about how someone elses problem was from chewing sugarfree gum. That rang true with me, since I started chewing gum after I quit smoking a couple months ago, right around the time this problem started. Today I have not chewed gum and this is the first day I have not had pain in my stomach. Thanks!
