Saw a gastro DR. last week and he has ordered ultrasound of pancreas, liver and gallbladder and small bowel xray with follow through.....I am a 50 y/o woman who has always been very healthy (although overweight) until 3 years ago when diarrhea started one day (along with nausea, I thought I was getting the flu) the nausea stopped the the diarrhea never went away for about 2 1/2 years. About 6 weeks after this started, I went to the same gastro and he did stool sample tests and ordered antiobiotics, which had no results. This same DR. performed a colonoscopy on me the year before for unrelated symptoms and everything there was fine. The daily diarrhea stopped last summer, but my bowel movements (stools) are always changing and very rarely normal. Usually they are very loose. Sometimes they are formed but disintegrate when flushed. Many times they are thin. I did a 5 day juice fast in January along with some enemas hoping to detox and give my innards a rest to hopefully heal. Since that time stools have been floating and sticky and foul smelling. The color changes regulary....sometimes very dark brown, sometimes dark green, sometimes kind of beige....most times medium brown. I have been vegetarian for about 5 years, occasionally eat cheese and eggs, no milk. I will go through phases where I burp almost immediately after eating, but not always. Occasionally I have abdominal "discomfort" (I wouldn't call it pain). It is in the upper region and feels to be near the surface, not deep. Different areas and usually lasts for a day or so then is gone for quite some time. I smoke and drink occasionally. I also did a 10 day water fast last spring...I had also been smoking regularly until then and stopped during the fast. A couple months after that is when the diarrhea stopped. I was also feeling pain in what seemed to be my rectum for a while last year, but that went away and hasn't returned. I have been smoking occasionally and have some beer or wine some weekends. The DR. said it sounded like could be gallbladder problems at the beginning of my visit. He had me lay down and pressed all over my abdomen but there were no tender spots. He has a very good reputation and he said he wasn't sure what to do with me. He told me to get some over the counter acid medication to see if it had any results, I haven't done that yet. I never have heartburn so not sure why he wants me to do that. Anyway, just putting this out there. I am going to have these tests. One day I am positive I have some kind of cancer, the next I am sure it's something not so awful. Can anyone relate to my crazy symptoms? :(
