Hi,

I have been experiencing non-specific abdominal pain, fatigue, cramping, bloating, constipation, and gas. I went to a GI specialist, and they did a CT scan of my GI tract. The results were normal except for some small swollen lymph nodes on my right side. I found this odd since most of the pain I experience is on my left side (but it tends to move around). I also had blood work done about 3 weeks ago (including a CBC) and the results were normal. (They also tested for mono- results were negative.) I've lost about 3 lbs of weight since I have been feeling nauseas on and off. Some days I can eat and I feel ok, other days I can't. Sometimes I feel bloated and gassy, but most of the time it is the pain that bothers me (also comes and goes). Not severe, scale of 3 out of 10. I also get exhausted really quickly when I exercise, but that could be b/c I'm eating less.

I tried an elimination diet with no dairy products for a week (dr. recommended). Did not help.

FYI: I am 22 yr old, female. I have had a history of abdominal pain and constipation going back since high school (but no nausea or fatigue). At that time, the doctor I had then "thought" it might be IBS. Increased fiber in the diet which helped with constipation but not pain. In college, I had pain on and off usually on my lower left side. This might not be related but I also have a history of sinus infections (1-2 per yr). Had allergy testing last summer (RAST test)(for airborne allergies, not food) results were neg. total IgE count was low.

What could this be? Why would my WBC be normal, but my lymph nodes swollen? Could this be a food allergy or intolerance? If it is an infection, shouldn't it gone away by now?

  • i ahve the smae sort of thing and always ignored it thinking it wasnt a problem but i had some tests run on me for various other things and eventually that led to being tested for celiac disease (an intolerance to gluten) i most likely have that just waiting for an endoscopy to confirm it. your symptoms sound quite similar, maybe try getting tested for celiac?

  • I agree that you should be tested for celiac, but you could also have something like IBD. In some people it can takes years to diagnose.

  • Thanks for the replies. I'm still waiting for results from the bloodwork and ova and parasite exam. If that doesn't show anything, the doctor wants me to go in for a gastric emptying study. And then maybe a colonoscopy. They did a blood test for celiac. The results should be in later this week.

  • yup same boat as all you but i think ive figured out whats going on , alot of our food crops recently have been switched over to gmo food crops {very dangerous mutated lab foods aka genetically modified organics}there was a case where they even made a potato that made its own pesticide called bt it caused precancerous cells gastridus etc in 7 of 9 lab rats {thank monsanto coorporation for me} anyway long story short none of the gm foods were ment to be grown in food crops untill further research etc proves a safe food was made... but anyway somehow rice soy caster oil some cotton seed oils wheats etc found there way into the food supply and were eating it untill gmo food is labeled as gm food we only can count on foods labeled organic now {thank god gm doesnt qualify as organic} anyway do some research and stop eating poison you arnt stupid people, so be responsible people and help stop this cause bottom line is it kills people and you are unknowingly feeding this garbage to your kids ill dumb down the process for ya all they take protien attach it to gold dust and shoot it into a petre dish full of dna from another plant and boom a bunch of genetic markers randomly go on or off one marker may cause cancer causing chemicles to be born in your now blue apple or maby you want a red one but bam now you got a red one that has no vitimins god only knows what you end up with {itd take years of research to even know what you have } point is there killing your children and paying polititions to be quiet while they do it but hey dont listen to me {2 months healthy now } enjoy your gut pain and cancer filled family life

  • Bad news... They still don't know what is wrong with me. I went in for an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy but everything came back normal. Here is what it is not: IBD, Celiac, infection, parasites. They gave me anti-protozoal medication to try but it didn't help, they then gave me antibiotics in case it is small bowel bacterial overgrowth but they haven't helped either. Now they want me to go in for an ultrasound sometime next week.As for my symptoms, I still am having abdominal pain regardless of whether or not I eat anything. When I press on the area that is painful it feels almost like there are small bumps there (or swelling maybe). However, I'm not sure if what I'm feeling is my intestines cramping, or if there is an actual lump, or I'm just feeling my intestines in general. The pain is not in one location- it varies all over- but there are specific locations that hurt more than others. The locations that hurt the worst are upper right quadrant about 2 inchs below the ribs, and the lower left quadrant about an inch from my belly button. When I do eat, I get really severely bloated and the pain is worse. I'm so tired of feeling bad. It's been almost 4 months since this started. I can't work and I'm exhausted/in pain all the time. Any Ideas on what this could be? I'm beginning to wonder if it is not GI related at all and is something else that is pressing on my intestines?
