Hello I am a 43 year old white male 6’ 180 lbs. I have suffered from nervous bowel for the past twenty years. Over the past four years my symptoms have evolved into chronic constipation. It is inconsistent. Most of the time I have ribbon or a flat shape, sometimes normal, never loose. Lately the color has turned from normal brown to olive green back and forth. I have gas all the time. I get bloated as the day progresses and have to wear lower cut pants even though I am not over weight. I also have mild left flank pains and pains in my descending colon, more like a dull ache not a sharp pain. They are on and off some days worse some day’s non-existent. I do have bowel movements two to three times a day. They are inconsistent and very light in volume. There is no blood in my stool other than hemorrhoid occurrences. If I take Psylum fiber over the counter Metamucil it does work well. I became dependent on it so I try not to take it all the time. I eat very healthy. High fiber low fat organic if possible. I exercise every day. I do have a tendency to eat late at night. I also drink alcohol and allot of coffee as well. Neither in excess but regularly. Despite being in great shape I have a lower back injury herniated disk at L-4, L-5 but I do allot of Pilates and Yoga and it helps greatly in reducing pain or range of motion issues. There is no blood in my stool other than hemorrhoid occurrences. I have done fecal occult tests over the years and they have been negative. I have not done a colonoscopy. I am terrified of it . My Mother recently survived colon cancer. Many of the symptoms I am reading about here are consistent with my situation.
