Hi, I'm a 22 year old female. When I was 14 I started having intense stabbing pains in my right side. My first doctor basically blew me off and told my parents nothing was wrong. Eventually I saw a specialist who diagnosed me with GERD but it never explained the pain. Sometimes the pain would would radiate over to my left side. Sometimes it was high up on my right side near my ribs and sometimes it was low near my hips. My second doctor didn't believe me about the pain due to its various movements. I pretty much learned to live with it and I got tired of my doctor. Last year the pain in my upper right side was so severe I couldn't focus in class and it was discovered that my gallbladder was infected and at a 40% working capacity. I had it removed and actually got an apology out of my doctor (who soon after left the practice he worked at) but after the surgery I still had alot of pain in my right side. 8 months later it was discovered that I had chronic appendicitis and I had that removed as well.

I had my appendix taken out 2 weeks ago and for a few days I had absolutely no pain and it was amazing. But now the pain in my lower left side is back. It's a stabbing pain thats sudden and usually goes away in a few seconds but it happens throughout the day. My right side hurts as well and it's tender to touch. My family was so excited after my appendix surgery because we thought this was over and I can't bear to tell them that it hurts again. Because I'm 22 now I am off my parent's insurance and if anything else goes wrong it's out of my pocket (even though my dr. had 8 years to diagnos me..)

I had a Cat Scan done 2 months ago and nothing other than an appendicolith showed up. Has anyone else experienced this or have pain in their lower left side? I'm going crazy here.

  • I guess I am a little confused. Is the pain just sort of migrating around your abdomen. Because at one time you say right side and then another you say left side. Does it seem to correlate with your menstrual cycle?

  • Sorry for the confusion. It's not really migrating. It was three seperate places that were hurting. After I had my gallbladder and appendix taken out, the abdominal pains (on both sides) were still there. It feels like i'm being stabbed all the time and it isn't affected by my menstral cycle. I had endoscopys and a colonoscopy done recently and nothing other than mild infections were found. I also have a lot of joint pain mostly in my wrist but my Crohn's test came back negative.

I'm going crazy here.I have had right and left sided flank pain for 10 years, It has got to the point I has affected my entire life. I have had mri, ct scans, renal ultrasound, blood tests liver tests and no one doctor can find out what is causing it, i do have a cyst on the inside of kidney but was told that is not the cause. I have had a long history of kidney stones and have afew tiny ones they say in the lower lobe but again they say that not the cause, I have had and taken every pain med available and even morphine pills do not touch the pain, I feel like someone is stabbing me with a knife, if I bump into something on my arm I could go through the roof in pain, all the tests say everything is normal. I know exactly what you are talking about. I would just once let the doctor feel my pain for 10 minutes and they would be running to the emergency rooms

I'm going crazy here. i didn't realize how many people were going through similar issues!!! i,m 5yrs into mine & still working on it! i heard you can get stones stuck in other places i don't know if thats why i still get pains on the left side too after GB removed i've had alot of test too, my next is probably gastric emptying? i don't know when my mystery will get resolved? but one of the recent discoveries is i have b12 deficiency! many others have this after GB removal! i started b12 vitamins 2 months ago & pain on left side is becoming less frequent & severe!! you could have several things going on or be domino effect from this gb problem, so don't give up, apparently... there's a lot of us out there with the same problems get b12 levels checked & keep researching! check my 3pt blogs out, hope it helps!!
