I am a 56 year old male. Last year I had a double bowel resection with Iliostomy in February. Parts of the Rectum and Sigmoid were removed as well as part of the ascending colon. With the reversal of the Iliostomy in May came fiery bowel movements with immediate rash which neither the Surgeon or Gastroenterologist can fiqure out. I have given up dairy and sugar as well as everything else for 3 weeks at a time with no change. The weird thing is, When this stops, all internal and external burning ceases and the rash clears up within hours. This sometimes happens in the middle of a movement. The condition returns in a matter of a day or two without regard to food and will last 5 or more days.
Has anybody ever heard of this?????????????? HELP PLEASE

  • I don't have everything you had as regards to your surgeries BUT I do have burning and pain like a back ache in my lower bowel area. When I pass fecus, the pain stops. With this condition I have a terrible rectal itch, which nothing stops when fecus is near the rectum. When a bowel movement happens the itch is very present until I completely dried it out by powder. This has gone undiagnosed for 4 years. I had a colonostomy, with one hemmroid found. It was removed but I still have the same condition. I was told I had IBS once. I wonder if this has to do with bile salts? I notice if I eat chocolate/sugar it intensifies. Im allergic to dairy and have removed it from my diet with no results. Sorry I can't help but I know how you feel. KIM, 49 yrs old

KIM, 49 yrs oldHi Kim, I tried asking the "Online Doctor" on this site and found out that Zinc Deficiency also causes these symptoms which mimic Lactose Intolerance. I have been trying Zinc w/ Copper supplements from GNC for the last week and the burning has all but disappeared. My situation gets worse too with chocolate, but have found that a couple or three Lactaid tabs. before eating it takes care of it. Still dealing with the Hem. pain which, unfortunately is also the reattachment area. Prep-H helps the Perianal area but I wish they made a nozzle for the internal, Suppositories won't work for me. You might try asking on the Online Doc. about Bile Salts, It is cheaper than an appointment. Let me know how you are doing.Rob
