Hello all,

I'm a 19 year old female. I was diagnosed with IBS 3 years ago when I didn't have a BM for over 2 weeks. I had/have suffered with anorexia/bulimia which most people "blame" this on. However, I developed these problems soon after starting on my birth control, YAZ. After pumping me with laxatives, it fixed the problem.

For the last few weeks, I've been extreamly tired, constipated, shaky, sharp pains in lower left stomach ( more pelvic area), chills, and horrible hot flashes. All blood work was normal, and I have an X-ray scheduled for tommorow.

I wish they'd find something more then IBS and figure out why I feel so bad. It seems to me IBS is just the easy way out for doctors who can't find the problem.

  • I totally agree on the ibs thing. I have just had my colon out and have had every test going, i was even told it was depression and there was nothing wrong with me!! I went mad at the doctor, how quick they jump on ur past....I ended up losing my colon so I had alot wrong with me. There is a condition which I ended up with caused obstructive defecation syndrome, google it and see if your symptoms are same. It does sound to me you have problems and possibly from your anorexia it has caused a syndrome to come into play, the bowel is so tempermental, I was ill for 4 years with mine after an operation went wrong, losing a colon is last resort, if people are diagnosed correctly to start with then its manageable, also it could be slow gut transit..you can google this again. I would go back to ur GP after looking up the conditions and ask him to put you forward for the slow gut transit test, you have to swallow markers over a period of days then have an x ray to see how far they have travelled in your system...this will determine if you have a problem in the actual bowel being sluggish and then they will be able to help. Hope this helps :)

  • I still feel like ***l. Have been taking magnesium citrate which took 15 hours to produce a small bm, did an enema didn't work so tried the extra strength which worked but painfully and i don't feel relieved. the pain is still there i have terrible nausea. i can't take it anymore i really can't. can i feel this bad because of IBS?

  • No i dont believe you have IBS either, using enema's is drastic, I got to the point where I was using 6-8 partial enemas a day to try and have a bm and in the end I was on picolax the stuff they give you to empty your bowels before an operation, it worked twice then even that wouldnt work. Poor you, I totally sympathise, it is ***l on earth. Get back to your GP, tell them how desperate you are and demand they help you. My GP has been rubbish, my surgeon even wrote him a letter saying I should of been diagnosed earlier and should never of been left in the state I was. Where in Country are you?? Would you be able to afford a private consultation bypassing the NHS altogether? Your bm's are not normal, hence the sickness and pain. Dont give up, you wont believe what I have been through to get where I am, its a horror story and I certainly dont want to see anyone else suffer. IBS is a cop out, explain how its impacting on your life & get your GP to get you a proper diagnosis x

  • The pain is getting worse by the day. Hes sending me for a cat scan on friday. my stomach is swollen i look like i'm pregnant. this is really hard not just the pain but the weight gain especially dealing with an eating disorder. my fiance, though understanding the situation, is upset because we haven't been intimate in a long time. I can't do it anymore. i did another enema which produced stool but afterwards i'm still bloated and with pain. idk if all these laxatives are causing the bloat but i can't handle it. i'm gonna snap. if this is just constipation i don't understand why the million laxatives haven't stopped the problem. each day that goes by the pain is getting worse, as is the terrible bloating.

  • You get to a point where laxatives dont work as youve used them so much, a cat scan wont reveal what is going on with your colon habits, ask him to refer you for a slow gut transit test, you could have obstructed defecation syndrome like i ended up with. Its def not normal. Sex will be too painful. GP's dont know enough about the bowel this is the problem..Ive seen many specialists and only rate one of them. Are you in the uk?

  • I'm from Pennsylvania, United States. I'm at the point now where I don't want to get out of bed. The pain and the huge stomach is just killing me. I know this could be just because of constipation, but after all the enemas and laxatives i'd think the bloating and pain would have gotten better, not worse. I hope they find something tommorow and give me an answer to ease the pain and bloating. I can't hide in my house anymore. It's disrupting my life and I don't even look in the mirror because it depresses me to see my stomach like this. I have to force myself to eat, and when I eat very little I feel so full. Anyway to get rid of the bloat?

  • My CT scan didn't show anything. I haven't gone to the bathroom without the help of a laxative since july. my weight is going up along with the bloat. appaarently i'm not sick but i know something's wrong. if this is IBS idk what else to do. this all started on July 15th. I took two natural vegetable lax from walmart last night and it didn't produce a BM. I'm eating dry cereal oatmeal and fruit. Yet i'm gaining weight and my stomach is constantly bloated.

Hi, poor you, a CT scan would not show anything is wrong with your bowels. You need a test to determine why your bowels arent moving properly. The bloat will not go until your bowels move properly, mine only went when my colon was removed, now I have a flat washboard stomach but what a price to pay for it. Exactly you know something is wrong, change doctors and go back....dont give up x

  • Hi how are you feeling? Hey crunchiejoe,I stopped taking the vegetable laxatives(sennosides 8.6) and stool softeners today. They didn't produce a BM after taking it once a day for almost a week. All I got was a dark piece of stool. The bloating went down a bit after stopping the laxative today, but tommorow it'll probably be worse. My boyfriend thinks I'm no longer in love with him. We've been together for over three years and he doesn't understand how painful and depressing this is for me. My internship gave me a bad review because of the time I had to miss to get the tests. Not to sound disgusting, but I had to dig out stool that was in me. it was at the end where I should have been able to push it out. It wasn't hard but I couldn't get it out of me no matter how much I pushed. This happens to me a lot actually, even when I had "normal" bm I would have to dig it out a lot of the time. I can't afford to see a gastrologist. It'd cost me 60 with my copay. My insurance runs out in september I don't have much time though. Do you know any natural things that could help me? I heard of pepperment oil. I've also been trying to take shots of apple cyder vingar. I'll try anything at this point. Thank you so much for listening to me when no one else wants to anymore.

  • Hello, I'm so sorry for the trouble you're having. Sometimes it seems like our body is our worst enemy. Have you ever heard of your posas muscles? They are very powerful! Along with the piriformis muscles, and others in the area, they hold your organs in place and allow them to function properly. Please go on google and look at pics and info about your beautiful body! Educate yourself about how it is all connected.Go read my blog at www.mystretchedbody.blogspot.comI hope you feel better, soon.

Did you know that one in six US adults has high cholesterol?

  • Hi Ive been there before where you have to dig the stools out, have you tried vaginally evacuating, pushing on the back wall of the vagina because if this works then you def have a bowel prolapse & this would hopefully be a condition your GP knows about. To be honest Ive tried every natural remedy going, chinese medicine, kinesiology, herbs etc and nothing worked for me. If it is a prolapse nothing will work. Your colon is obviously not working as it should. I know how hard it is going back to GP when they dont listen but dont give up. I understand your boyfriend must find it hard to cope with, as has my own husband when sex is very limited, me having depression and pain. Are you on antidepressants? if not you should be, it will help you cope. I expect your partner not understanding is an age thing, men dont get it when they dont get your full attention, but you just have to explain you are unwell & you need support. It can be hard for someone else to understand, especially when your GP isnt getting it. Go back and see your GP and tell him you are manually evacuating your bowels and it feels like a prolapse and see what he says. I had to go to doctors myself yest & didnt want to go as they are soo useless so I do understand. Your welcome, you have my full support, I dont want anyone else to end up like me. Dont worry ive been basically told im crazy, nothin wrong with me etc, all soo wrong!! 11 ops and having my colon removed becasue they didnt diagnose me properly should give you the hope to know THEY DO GET IT WRONG & OFTEN. I wish I could offer a natural remedy, you could try peppermint oil, my gp gave me mine but it did nothing. Rather than having 3 meals a day, you could eat little and often to see if that helps, even if one of the meals is a complan or supplement meal. xx

  • I forgot to say that the doctor said according to my ctscan i wasn't compacted. I hadn't had a BM in over a week when I got the ctscan. The night after the ctscan I did an enema because the pain was so bad and went more than I had ever gone in my life. I don't get how he could say I wasn't constipated...I know what constipation feels like!! I've tried prunes to as a natural effort. I'm nausous and disgusted as usual. I tried milk of magnesia yesterday not much happened but I didn't take it before bed. I'm trying tonight before bed. Here's what my new IBS cabinet is filled of now and how well they work scale of 1-5: 1) Gas x (2)2) Stool softeners (2nd bottle) (0)3) Exlax (3)4) Vegetable Laxative (0)5) Papaya enzyme (unsure tastes good though)6) Milk of Magneisa (so far 1)7) Tried numerous enemas (4) I went to GNC health store. The women behind the counter had Chrons and told me to get these digestive enzymes that she and others have had a lot of success with. However, its 30 bucks and since I'm hardly working now between working for free at the ***n internship I'm broke. If i had known in the beginning it would have saved me a lot of money. I'll keep everyone updated. I couldn't find peppermint capsuls, just tea which I hate tea so I wasn't sure if I would try it yet or not.

  • have you asked about/ been informed about crohn's disease? i have it. when it first started out i was in the bath room a lot but as a child (before i really felt sick) i would go to the bathroom once a week or so. and now with the crohn's, that's my major complaint. i feel like i have to go all the time but can't, i'm tired allll the time (i sleep for at least 10 hrs or more a night and it's never enough), i feel like throwing up every day, my body hurts, i pretty much feel like death.check in to that.i know you're not 21 yet, but if you're real cool with your mom, ask to make you a margarita with the frozen bicardi mix (it comes like the minute maid juice) with 3/4 of the can then filled with rum (and ice, of coarse). a half of one might make you go. for me with my crohn's, if i even drink half, it bothers me for a couple days. ducolax suppositories work really well, they do cause a little pain, but it's worth it if you really want to go. the fleets glycerine ones don't cause as much discomfort, but i don't like them as much. popcorn might work for you too.

Hi, a CT scan would not show how compacted you are without being given a barium enema which is radioactive and shows up on an xray. Im not surprised you are broke having to buy all of those items. You def need the slow gut transit test, its not normal & taking all those laxatives and enemas will eventually cause you other problems. Dont give up x

  • Hey, the MOM isn't helping. I'm bloated, gassy, and have leakage after use. Do you think it could be my thyroid? I'm guessing he'd test for that. I got it tested three years ago. I'm up 3 lbs since yesterday. I can't take it anymore. I just want something to work. I try to stop using anything but than I don't go to the bathroom at all. When I "dug out" the piece in me, it was small dark and kind of tar-like if that makes since. Or like a piece of gum.

  • I called the dr and had him test my thyroid. I didnt get the results yet but I'm guessing it'll be another "sorry cassie you're insane" story. I'm not getting any better. I'm taking 2 tbs of MOM before bed which produces a BM in the morning, but I don't feel relief. I'm bloated and I have the left side pains. The sounds from my stomach are quite embarresing. I'm barley eating and I want to give up. If this is IBS I wish it'd at least ease off like it has in the past. It's getting a lot worse not any better no matter what I try.

Any luck with getting some colon tests done? Dont overdo the laxatives if possible as they can ruin your bowel too if taken over a long period and alot.
