How can I be diagnosed with diverticulitis with no symptoms or pain.

Is it possible that colon inflammation can be caused by the colonoscopy prep which is dreadful to take and excruciating to go through. I have never had any problems with bowel movements and have been a vegetarian for 40 years. I am supposed to get a sigmoidoscopy next, having gone through a colonoscopy and a virtual colonoscopy (done as a screening only - not for any pain or symptoms). I am contemplating cancelling this last procedure as I am filled with disdain over the prep. I feel this is done at a doctor's desire to get experience and be safe against lawsuits occurring. I went from feeling great to being a nervous wreck.

It is possible for the prep to cause some irritation but it seems like that would be present throughout your intestines and not in isolated "pockets" as suggested by diverticulitis. Perhaps you have diverticulosis (the condition) without having diverticulitis (an active flare-up of painful symptoms). Did they find/remove polyps during your colonoscopy? If those were benign, I see no reason for more testing at this time. You can deal with this condition through diet modifications, like cutting down on dairy, and drinking plenty of water. I am not one for submitting myself to unnecessary procedures, and it sounds like you feel the same. Good luck with however you choose to proceed.
