I have been having bouts of diarrhea regularly for about 15 -18 months now. Went to see a Gastroenterologist about a year ago because I was not only having diarrhea but also acid reflux. She did endoscope and discovered I not only had acid reflux but also an ulcer and a hiatal hernia. She gave me medication for all, and the ulcer (which I did not even know I had) healed. Have changed meds. for the acid reflux a couple of times, and most of the time, the meds. do an okay job for helping with the acid reflux. However, despite all the meds. they have given me for the diarrhea bouts, they have not stopped. I actually changed doctors (same practice, just different docs), and when he first saw me, he looked at my records and saw that I had a perfectly normal colonoscopy back in 2010 and also saw that my previous doctor had done all sorts of blood work and stool samples looking for some sort of infection(s), but all that blood work was normal. Two weeks ago, the dr. did a flexible sigmoidoscopy and even did a few biopsies, and again, nothing serious showed up. When I went for my follow-up visit last week, we again discussed the diarrhea, and he ordered more blood work on me. I got a call from the doctor's office Friday saying that my VIP level is 93 and that he wants to see me because he will have to do another test. She didn't know what kind. CAN ANYBODY TELL ME IF THERE IS ANYTHING BUT PANCREATIC CANCER (VIpoma) THAT WOULD CAUSE MY VIP LEVEL TO BE SO HIGH?
