First Time Abdominal Problems

I'm a 27 year old male with no history of health problems. For the last week, I have had many unusual symptoms including gassiness, abdominal swelling and cramping, and a pulsating, almost stabbing pain in my upper right abdomen that lasts for about 5-10 seconds.(It has happened 3 times this week.) Expelling gas usually eases the discomfort. And there has been no nausea or vomitting, but I do have a sore throat.
Any ideas on what is causing this? Is there an OTC that might help with the gassiness? And is the gassiness the likely cause of the pulsating pain, or should I be checked for something more serious.
I've never had any problems like this, so I wasn't sure what I should do. I mean, on a scale of 1 to 10, the pulsating pain is a 3. The general discomfort is only present part of the time, and seems to happen about 4 hours after I eat. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • My abdominal swelling is in my upper abdomen and never goes away, not with passing gas, doesn't matter what I eat it is always there. It goes straight through to my back...do you have any of that? I have gas constantly and they have checked me for everything.....I am starting to be afraid of what might be wrong.....I am very thin, with an abnormal distention in my upper abdomen. From my belly button to my sternum...very weird! I'm a 27 year old male with no history of health problems. • Believe it or not, it could be GERD or a gastric ulcer--I have similar symptoms and yet hardly any heartburn. I have a lot of intestinal gas and mostly mild cramps/pain in the upper abdomen and back. At other times, I have frequent tightness, pressure behind the sternum, without any burning sensation, which is usually relieved by belching. According to the doctor it is all caused by GERD or possibly a gastric ulcer. In any case get it checked out by a doctor.
