Please help me. I am very worried now. I've been getting a stabbing pain between my shoulder blades (breast level, a little to the right side) in my upper back after almost every time I eat. I also have some throat pain which (could also be due to my allergic rhinitis). This has been going on for about a week. I am very worried that it could be a peptic ulcer or even esophageal cancer. The thing is that i am a 19 year-old female. Should I even be concerned about cancer?
Any advice will be deeply appreciated. Thank you.

  • Greetings..Well, first off, I would say your fears of cancer are actually very rational. In our modern computerized societies cancer is so common and widespread that it is often the first thing the average person suspects. However we should try not to let our society-driven fears get too far. There are in actuality many other serious and non-serious issues beside cancer. We must not come to fear every issue as life ending cancer. Is there some specific rational reason why you might get cancer? If the answer is 'No' then I would say, get checked out, and try to worry less =)If the answer is 'Yes'.. I would say the exact same thing. Worrying will do nothing but cause more health problems. In all honesty the chances of a 19 year old contracting esophageal cancer for no good reason is incredibly small, almost unheard of. However, the smart thing to do is to always, always get checked. There are worse things out there than cancer ;)

  • the same thing has been happening to me the last few days. after everytime i eat ive been getting this heartburn in my chest that has stayed with me. ive tried antacids but they don't help much. ive been sticking to a diet that excludes tomatoes, lemons, tea, coffee, spicey foods, fatty food.. all that heartburn causing stuff. i havnt been drinking any beer or smoking the last few days. its helped out alot but i can still feel it in my chest sitting there. ive also had some fatigue, ive been really tired latley. i also read on google you know.. "YOU HAVE CANCER." but im 19 as well.. and f*** that, i know i don't. i had an infection last week and i was on this medication called cephalexin, and it gave me a sore throat.. so i think it might be related to that? but i stopped the pills about a week ago.. the sore throat is finally gone but the heartburn... i'm not going to the doctor, i just wanna hear someone say they had it and it went away in a few days.
