Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis? Please Help!!

So I've been struggling with extreme distension for ten months now (since January). I've had just about every scan, test, and medication that there is and everything comes back "normal" and the medications don't do anything. The only things that have shown up were that I was lactose intolerant (extremely lactose intolerant, the doctor said I had 1.4 enzyme level) and we immediately eliminated lactose from my diet with zero results. We have also tried eliminating gluten and gotten tested for Celiac's with nothing showing up. Another thing that showed up was on an ultra sound my gall bladder turned up looking "sludgy" so we got a Hyda-Scan done and turns out my gall bladder was nonfunctioning, no stones, just that it wasn't working, so I had surgery to get it removed before school started (I'm a sophomore in high school) and didn't see any improvement in the bloating. Since January, my bloating has gone from only occasional to continuous. I've been constantly distended for about eight months now (and no, I'm not pregnant). I used to weigh about 127 pounds but after coming off of Paxil for my anxiety disorder I dropped a lot of weight because one of the side effects was weight gain (I was also experiencing pretty much all of the side effects, fainting, blurred vision, migraines...you name it). I then maintained a pretty steady weight of about 118 and was eating extremely healthy and working out every day. When I say eating healthy, I mean VERY healthy. No sugar, no white flour, I definitely don't eat like the typical teenager. Because I bloat up and look about six months pregnant every time I eat, I have recently struggled with eating and have dropped to about 112-115 pounds (I fluctuate often as I try not to eat and then I get too hungry and binge). It's like every time I eat I am punished and I pretty much hate food right now. It's like my stomach is stupid and has no idea what to do with food and there is nothing that I can eat without getting distended almost immediately.
I've been doing some research and was wondering if Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis was a possibility? I'm not sure, as it sounds like people have more pain and vomiting than distension, and I do have abdominal pain in my left side up near my chest area occasionally (very sharp pain but lasts for about 5 seconds and it comes and goes throughout the day) but I don't have the vomiting thankfully. I'm just tired of the doctors not knowing what's wrong with me and telling me I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome which I personally think is a really stupid diagnosis that is basically just a catch all for when they don't know what's wrong.
I really need a diagnosis, this is driving me crazy, I'm missing school, I pretty much hate food, and I don't go out in public much anymore because I'm so embarrassed about looking so pregnant and distended. PLEASE HELP!!!

  • I was just diagnosed last year with eosinophillic gastroenteritis, I suggest you get a complete allergy test done - I took out all of the foods that came back positive on the test, and I feel better but not completely healthy. I still havent gained my weight back and get slightly bloated when I eat, and still have abdominal pain. I'm taking entocort as well, its a cortiosteriod typically used for Crohn's paitents. Good Luck.

  • I have symptoms of described above- severe abdominal pain with 6 months prego distended stomach. After 4 years of not knowing I cleansed with miralax & ducolax & began eating gluten free/ paleo. It worked. docs never heard of my symptoms when ingesting gluten. If i happen to eat gluten I get the symptoms described however they never go away . So I have to cleanse again- there must be an alternative. I just found posts on eosinophilic gastroenteritis. I am on 3 day entocort for first time...?
