Hi,
recently i was dignosed with Acid reflux and sometimes have chest tightness like there is something heavy on my chest when i sit a certain way but not walking around. However, when i have chest tightness sometimes i just stand up and arch backwards and i can feel my chest bone cracks and then i feel a lot better. I was wondering if it is my acid reflux that cause my chest tightness and cracking sound when i arch backward.

I am 21 year old female with acceptable weight and history of asthma and currentlly have panic attacks 2 months ago.

Thank you!

Thank you!Hi Maple,It is very likely that the crack is from your chest bones, and it probably means that you have a joint or joints stuck, in your neck or between your shoulder blades.Your costovertebral joints are between each rib and two adjoining back bones. They get involved when the two back bones get stuck.Things tighten up when one is still, and loosen up a bit when we are moving. The people who are trained to check and treat this sort of thing, are physiotherapists, chiropractors and osteopaths.

  • Hello! I can't imagine you'll read this since you posted over 5 years ago, but I am having the EXACT same symptoms.

My sternum pops when I arch my back and I am having the same tightness in my chest. I'm wondering if your symptoms went away and if so, was it due to some treatment? The tightness in my chest and difficulty breathing are driving me crazy!

    Thank you!
