Hi everyone, here is my case:

- I have had many episodes of abdominal pain; they occur around 3 month apart, and always last around 48 hours. This has been the case for more than 4 years if not more.

- The pain center seems to be in the lower abdomen (that area feels tender when touched) but the pain is also present in the belly area.

- Last doctor I saw diagnosed constipation and indicated something might be wrong in the bowel movement leading to stool staying inside (although I do have a relatively regular bowel movement during the episode).

- Couple of years ago, I had 2 consecutive episodes of Pericarditis (was diagnosed as Idiopathic then) that were around 4 months apart.

- I am from middle eastern origin, but as far as I know there isnt anyone in my immediate family who suffers from these symptoms.

So, do I have Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) and how can i definitely diagnose it?

Thanks for helping!

  • Bump.Went to three different hospitals (Emergency) on different occasions..and followed up with an internal medicine clinic (i wasn't sick during my time with them, since as i said, this comes and goes within 2 days)..They did lots of tests...imaging etc... and they didnt seem to think its Mediterranean fever (though they didnt confirm 100% that it isnt so).. but they cannot diagnose any condition or disorder.I am going crazy...it is still happening with the same pattern...no one can tell me anything...I would highly appreciate your input and suggestions.

I have been diagnosed with FMF 8 years before in a Turkish hospital with exactly same symptoms as yours. To diagnose they have monitored the blood CRP value during an attack together with these symptoms. There are specialised clinics in Middle East countries such as Turkey and Israel as well as in Italy and Georgia. They have even started to offer gene analysis to clearly detect this disorder since they have found the responsible gene. One has a high risk of loosing his/her kidneys which is caused by amyloidosis resulting from FMF attacks.I wish you good health! Cheers.
