Last Friday I had an abdominal hernia repair and everything went fine, but the next day, after I could eat again, I started experiencing sharp gas pains and had a distended abdomen. It is now almost an entire week later and my abdomen is still distended.
I have no problem going to the bathroom and yesterday when I woke up my abdomen was almost normal, but within 5 minutes of waking it was swollen again.
I have had general anestesia before when I was in high school and never had any problems. Is this a complication? My blood test taken after surgery did not indicate any kind of hematoma and other than a bloated feeling I feel fine.
Note that I have basically been lying down or walking only around the house since the procedure in the event that might have something to do with it-the surgeon had said this was normal after surgery but I find it quite odd and there is no sufficent answer to explain what the cause is.
