I have had some interesting gastrointestinal symptoms for nearly a week now and am wondering if any of these sound familiar to anyone else. I've had digestive issues / anxiety nearly my whole life; the past couple of years I have been severely constipated (passing small dark stool) with occasional diarrhea spells (about once a month or so) but last week, after returning from a bike ride with my son, I experienced a bout of nausea that lasted about half the day. The next day, most of the nausea had subsided and the diarrhea began. I'm no stranger to diarrhea, but this case has been most unusual / disturbing to me. I have had no fever or flu like symptoms at all with this; when the severe cramps subside, I will feel absolutely perfectly normal --- appetite intact and all.
On the third day, the diarrhea got even worse; I was running to the bathroom what seemed like every 10 minutes or so; later in the evening, I found some small traces of blood in my stool --- nothing too shocking, but enough to notice and get concerned. The traces of blood seemed to only appear twice and has since gone away. The next day, the diarrhea seemed to taper off a bit and I was starting to feel better. Like a fool, I drank too much wine that evening which resulted in a VERY unpleasant morning; my stool at this point had changed to the color of pitch; this lasted all morning and a few random episodes throughout the day.
The last couple of days, I thought I was feeling better; the frequency of the diarrhea has lessened; yesterday I passed more fully formed stool although it appeared very black and covered with a whitish mucus; then this morning, another bout of watery diarrhea. Seems to be worse in the morning for some curious reason.
This has gone on for 6 days now and I am getting worried; I've always had problems with this on and off throughout the years and simply assumed that it was caused my anxiety or stress; I was laid off back in February and currently have no health insurance or else I most certainly would have gone to see a doctor about this by now; I was hoping that this issue would have resolved itself at this point and had seemed to be getting better but it remains about the same.
