My 15 Yo had has constant non stop stomach pain for the last 2 months. She has had a CT scan, colonoscopy, Xray and Endoscopy. They did find Barretts esophagus, but said that would not be causing non stop stomach pain. At times it spasms worse and its even more painful. It does not get better if she eats, does not eat or position wise.

Went for a second opinion with a pediatric gastro and he and our pediatrician think its anxiety. She was on 20 mg prozac, now just recently started on wellbutrin to see if that helps.

She has missed school mostly for the 2 months and has a home tutor. We are trying to get her back to school.

She says it can't be anxiety, she is not nervous etc ( she has has anxiety with school in past, but never with stomach issues like this). she has no other stomach symptoms.

She has researched intercoastal neuralgia, but we dont know much about it.

any ideas or suggestions would be wonderful

Thank you

  • Umm... I am basically in the same situation, and have been for a year and a half. I've missed school, which sucks, and am now at an online homeschool. I would suggest doing allergy tests, or anything else. They think I'm anxious too, but if I am, it's only because I've had this thing for a year and a half.I would suggest going to a pschologist, ect, just to prove it isn't in her head, and go from there. Also, research a lot online. It's the only way my mother and I are getting any progress, because my docs don't know what to do with me.

  • I am 16 and have been having GI problems for 3 years. From what I have found, a doctor saying "It's in your head" is a copout because they can't figure out what is going on. Don't give up- My parents have on me and i'm in this alone. Something I suggest is asking her to take a journal. Right down what she eats, what time, ect. When he pain starts coming on ask have her write it down and describe the area and such. Also conclude it with what makes the pain dull down for some time. Also ask your doctor about "Levsin". It's a pill that I have found that helps some.

  • Where exactly in the stomach does it hurt? This could be a long shot, but have you ever thought of chronic constipation? It can actually cause a lot of pain.Think about it :)If your doctors answers arn't satisfying you, sometimes the best thing to do is to start all over again with a new doctor.good luck :D
