Can wheat cause GI bleeding?

Can wheat sensitivity/gluten enteropathy of any kind cause significant GI bleeding?
I read that celiac disease cannot cause it except rarely, but how about other conditions?
My friend can lose 2-3 units of haemoglobin in a week, and it looks like it is triggered by eating wheat.
Thanks in advance for any help.
