Can gerd it be agravated by stress? and cause these symtoms?
I have this dry cough, soar throat, and pains in my chest not burning, just sometimes, and my ears feel like theyre gonna pop, and my nose feels sometimes like i snorted water, it burns. I'm always dizzy, and fatigued.
I had a stress test, 24 hour holter and echo and multiple ekgs, and everything came out normal, except for 15 pac's in a 24 hour period, but she said these flutters are very normal, and i felt one of them. My cardio said that the heart flutters can be agravated by stress, and acid reflux. I started taking protonix, ive been taking it for a week, and no improvement. has anyone else had these symtoms?

  • Did you ever find out why you had that feeling of your nose feels like sometimes you snorted water? I think I might have GERD and I had that same feeling today! I thought I was drowning!

  • IMO the best solution for GERD is to look at diet, and change to bland foods for a couple of months: brown rice, cooked vegies, no breads, fried foods, or spicy foods, no sodas, limit caffeine, drink lots of water. Get a good quality vegetarian digestive enzyme capsule with at least 70000 NFU's of protease, 10000 of lipase, 10000 of amylase, and others. This is the single best supplement for GERD and any digestive disorder as there is often an underlying enzyme deficiency. Please try this and see if your symptoms improve. There is a great book called Micro Miracles by Ellen Cutler, DC. Best wishesDOM

  • I too suffer from GERD, and have for a while, my doc prescibed 40mg nexium twice daily as well as not having anything to eat or drink (except water) 2-3 hours before bed. Before I started doing this I would wake in the middle of the night with acid in my mouth and on 2 occasions I aspirated to my lungs, not pleasant felt like a car sitting on my chest, got a good chest infection from this.

  • Yes it can and so can a lot of things. I woke up at nights the acid was shooting like up my throat, burning my lungs throat, I had a mouthful of it and I felt like I was going to suffocate to death. Burning pain in chest, heart felt like it was going to explode(probably due to the suffocating muscle straining to breath) and I don't know but the Acid just seemed to push against my esphogus and put pressure on my heart, dunno if anyone has had this side effect. Stress definitely makes GERD worse. the process of digestion uses Muscles and the nervous system so Nerves will agitate everything in digestion and in GERD in some people. If stress is the underlying cause you may wish to try a Muscle Relaxant and eliminate the stress for a few weeks and then evaluate Can gerd it be agravated by stress? and cause these symtoms?I have this dry cough, soar throat, and pains in my chest not burning, just sometimes, and my ears feel like theyre gonna pop, and my nose feels sometimes like i snorted water, it burns. • Hey I went to my gastroenterologist today, and he said that yes, the snorted water feeling can be acid and most probably acid. So I suggest if this keeps happening to you Neko, go to your doctor asap. and as for my case, they are going to do an endoscopy on the 11th, to check me out. Im still not feeling well at all, still having bad chest pain, strange symstoms, and a bunch of pac's. :(

Well, no. You don't HAVE to take the meds your doc prescribes, - it is your choice. There are other things you can look at like diet, and complimentary medicine. Do you drink coffee or caffeinated beverages? Do you drink iced tea? Do you drink so called "energy drinks"? How much water do you drink daily? Please research the side effects of PROTONIX on www.rxlist.com or www.drugs.com. There are many and they are varied so please be informed. Hope the meds help you, but if they don't consider trying a different approach. Best wishesDOM

  • I am watching my diet, its very bland now, it has been for a while, i havent had anything with tomatoes in what seems like forever, I crave a big plate with spaghetti and meat balls, I dont eat pizza, im cutting away from the fast food, I dont like coffee, so that hasn't been an issue, no sodas, no energy drinks, and no tea of any kind, no chocolate either :(. All i eat is soups my mom makes, boiled chicken, nothing fried, ensure, and i drink water and grape juice. For breakfast i eat eggs, or cereal, waffles, i eat about 4 times a day. hopefully i get better soon, thank you for your advice acuann, if meds dont help, i will try a more holistic approach.:)

  • I have some, if not most of the symtoms you have discribed. I also have mid-upper back pain with mine. My doctor does believe this is caused by reflux (GERD). I am currently taking 2 40mg Nexium/day, plus I also take Gaviscon to help, which does only about 50% of the time. I had an endo done in Dec. which turn up neg. for ulcers and cancer which is good news. Bad news is that they still really don't know what is happening for sure.

I am having really bad acid reflux also, I'm taking protonix twice a day and zantac twice a day...but its not completely helping. I am terrified of getting the endoscopy. How was the procedure? was it painful?

How was the procedure? was it painful?not at all, the worse part is the numbing spray on your throat. Your asleep after eveything else. My doc also gave me librax twice a day, which i just started taking, and i feel super sleepy/weird. maybe they will give you that too.
