Bleeding after bowel movement

I’m a 28 year old male. I’ve had hemorrhoids for about 3 years. It was caused by combination of poor bathroom habits (sitting in the bathroom for too long) and stress. It was nothing major for most of the time but I had occasional bleeding. Lately, I’ve been takes good amount of fiber and it looked like my hemorrhoids have been under control.

For the last 3 days I’ve had lots of blood dripping from my butt. There is good amount of blood but it stops after a while. The bowel movement is good and there is no pain whats so ever. Given my history it’s most probably a hemorrhoid as opposed to anal fissure.

My question is how much bleeding is too much? I am lucky that I have a regular bowel movement and it could heal eventually but I’m concerned that the blood loss could affect me overall. My wife told me that it’s not as much blood loss as I think and women for instance loose much more blood during the period.

Another question is what would a doctor do aside from suggesting a surgery? I read enough horror stories recoveries after these surgeries being much worse than the pain before.

Thanks in advance for any comments of suggestions.
