symptoms are stomach pain w/ foul smelling gas and diarrhea
Test:
Qualitative fat was 16 on a scale of 1-5. After pancrease enzymes it was 2.
have had blood work, enzymes all normal, thyroid normal, no cystic fibrosis, no immune disease. Small bowl and colonoscopy all normal. Ct and ultrasound all good. Not lactose intolerant, no chrons disease.

Future: i have to go for an endoscopy.

Anybody have any ideas of what it could be. I have been fine whilst taking supplemental enzymes, when i dont drink caffiene and dairy products with it.

  • yes lipase and amylase are normal. How long have the symptoms been going on? Are the symptoms constant or do they come and go? Are they worse after eating? Where is the pain, how would you descibe it--stabbing, constant sharp pain, dull ache, etc? Does the location of the pain change, if so how? Do antacids have any effect on the pain? Any other symptoms whatsoever? Have you tried changing your diet?

  • my pain is below and medial to my right ribcage. That pain is a constant ache with stabbing pain that come and go. I changed my diet and nothing changed. The symptoms have been a year. There is pressure in my right upper quadrant. Nothing seems to help. The pain does not subside with release of gas and just constant diarreaha. The pain level changes. I sometimes have to pull over if i am driving its so bad or just curl in a ball. Then it sometimes just a shrap pain to say oach. Like a 10 and a 3.

Hopefully by now you have had a hidascan (more specialized than a CT scan or ultrasound) to determine gall bladder functionality.

  • If the endoscopy doesn't clarify the issue, demand a HIDA scan-- it could be a gall bladder function issue.

  • You should have what's called: an "UPPER GI Follow-Through or callled "a Barium Swallow" and/or the "new" Capsule (camera) Endoscopy. As far as dairy goes (for anyone that suspects it's a prob)..IF DAIRY IS HEATED TO 170 F..the lactose breaks down to lactase, which is readily absorbed & no problem at all. There are several brands of lactase pills on the market, which if taken JUST befor Dairy, it almost completely prelvents symptoms. Some yogurts (refrigerated not frozen) are OK for some folks, while other brands aren't. Processed cheeses are OK, too. The harder the cheese, the least problems. Cheeses cooked in a recipe are usually OK, too.I find I CAN eat Breyers & Dannon Brands of yogurt (in dairy section) but NOT ANY of the other Brands, they REALLY affect me.PS: I've fallen in love with Yogurt "ice cream"! It's better than the real thing!Hope this helps!
