I've never had acid reflux in my life, about a week ago it started. Burning in my stomach all the way up my chest into my throat. I tried Pepto Bismal, Maalox, Tums..none of that helped. I finally tried Zantac two days ago, and started getting an asthma attack the next day. I stopped the Zantac but am still having trouble breathing. I took primatene tablets for the attack. I haven't had an attack in about 5 years. I just use an albuterol inhaler when I need it, not very often. I can't figure out what this is. I still have the heartburn and stomach burning, and trouble breathing.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

About 8 months ago I was diagnosised with GERD, which gave the same syptoms as you have. I also had the breathing issues which were caused by aspirating stomach acid into my lungs. My doctor suggested not to have anything but water 2-3 hours before bed as well as nexium 2x a day, since I started doing this I haven't had any breathing issues, though I still have some problems with my stomach. Hope this helps some.

  • I'm 39, I've had heart burn on and off for years, but this is the first time I've had stomach issues like I have.

  • Strange it happens so suddenly. Do you have to take these pills everyday permanently? Do you avoid all the foods you have to avoid or can you cheat a little? My life will be ***l with no coffee.........

  • I haven't given up a lot of what I like, but I have had to cut back on some of it. I still have my coffee in the morning. As far as I now with the Nexium it, I believe is going to be for the long term for me at least. The hardest part of this for me is that I love to snack while watching a movie, but because I have to stop eating at a certain time I no longer get to do this.
