Abdominal Pain, bloating, diarrhea

Recently I have been having abdominal pain, bloating and occasionally loose urgent stools and diarrhea. I have had the pain since I started school in the fall, but it has gotten increasingly worse. When I went home for christmas, I didn't have any pain after a few days. When I returned to school, it has slowly been creeping back.

I haven't gone to the health center about it really. I saw a GI doc over break. Had an EGD (biopsied in the esophagus and stomach looking for barretts esophagus/h. pylori and nothing was found). I have GERD and am on Nexium. I have dropped from 40mg down to 20mg under the doctor's orders, and was kind of hoping that the pain had gone away because of that change.

Any ideas??

My guesses are that it is a)stress related (though I'm not a person who seems to get very stressed out) b) Something related to college food or c)Who knows?

Please help me. I'm in pain.

  • This definitely sounds like IBS!I have had it for a few years (still in school in 6th form), and the symptoms are the same. The first time I had it, I was in the bathroom all day with unbelievable pain. I diagnosed myself with it, after seeing the doctor who had no idea. I was then put on some tablets (I still have some and can check what they're called if you need) which stopped these "attacks".Unfortunately IBS apparently stays with you forever, but now it is much better. I have to keep myself de-stressed, as any little thing can set it off.In the mean time I think you should stop worry, as it'll make it worse!

  • I worry that I too might have IBS. What medication do you currently take? I was prescribed Hyoscyamine a few months back. They had been working decently, but this past week I have had 4 days of "attacks". Please let me know.
