Can anyone advise me why my feet and ankles have swollen up. The left is a lot smaller than the right foot which is feeling like it is stretched to its utmost and is extrememly painfull. I am aged 48. Female with three children. Is this a symptom that something else is wrong? I am post menapausal. Is there something that could be causing it? Any help would be appreciated.

  • I too have swollen ankles they only seem to occur when the weather is very hot such as this week. They swell so much that they are very painful and the skin is so taut that its shiny and appears to be stretched to its maximum.I do have arthritis in both my knees, I am having the left knee replaced later this year could this make the ankles swell?...if so why?...thankyou

The first time was the day that I finally dawned shorts in Hawaii, even though it was overcast that day, evidently the uv rays did something. I used to live in Phoenix, so it wasn't just heat. Really freaked me out, I'm not used to having ANY part of me look fat, and I looked like I had fat people feet.(at one time I was 6'9" and 150#) I don't remember the last time to much because it was short lived. This time, one foot got mashed so there's a toe swollen up and some around that area, but both feet are doing it. The mashed one I think should have pretty much cleared up by now, but hasn't. I noticed in reading some of the cause and diagnosis stuff that headaches and nutrition were asked about in diagnosis. Boy have I ever had the headaches, and I live on bread so I doubt that helps. If it weren't for the fact that pain meds become ineffective as time goes on, I'd be on them all the time lately. One other thing, while there is no skin broken, my 8 month old dog knows which toe has the problem, she can smell something different about it, and licks it especially.

I know because I have several of them.
