I had a finger infection which was paronychia and it was red, swollen, painful, and filled with puss. I had it lanced/drained 15 days ago and the puss is gone and doesn't hurt anymore but my finger is still red and swollen and sensitive to the touch. Ehe bacteria inside my finger was staff and strep. Is it normal for my left pointer finger tip to still be swollen over 2 weeks later???
(just the tip was infected not the whole finger) even the doctor seems to think it should've healed by now. I know the average healing time is 1 week but I'm going on the 3rd week now with no improvements. I've been and still am taking Levoquin every day and a topical cream Centany for the finger.
I have to go back for a second follow up next week if still swollen which I have a feeling it will be. when will the swelling go away completely or is there anything else wrong keeping it still swollen. It was a bad infection so i'm thinking it prob. will just take a while to heal but its taking a long time.

please help

  • Maybe if you go back to the doctor he will xray it to be sure there is no infection in the bone. And did he choose the antibiotic based on culture results? Maybe you need a different antibiotic. Still in all, it does take a while for the swelling to clear up. Hopefully it gradually gets beter.
