hi ! I was wondering if anyone could give a diffinative list of symptoms? I live in a place where doctors are really bad, and the good ones are completely booked till the next year. You don't trust just anyone here:eek: . We are trying to move to get to a better place and better health care, but meanwhile, I suffer from fatigue, stomach issues, severe bloating, bad memory, I have had to give up wheat, corn , beans and rice ( they all liked ta killed me!) basically feel like I have the flu all the darn time.I have lost muscle strength and my endurance is toast. I also have hot and cold flashes at times, like I am running a fever, and then so cold I can;t get warm. Is this part of it too? How do you know that you just don't have something else? Are there any red flags?
I am a massage therapist and have worked on fibromyalgia patients in the past. They all have different symptoms, some more severe than others, is there a way to know for sure? Maybe then I could start self medicating, herbs etc?Is there anything to stay away from?
yikes and away,
Smig

  • I have Fibromyalgia was misdiagnosed for 7 years, told it was all psychological and just depression. I was diagnosed 10 years ago. The symptoms you describe sound very much like Fibromyalgia. However, not sure about the hot and cold flashes. I am having similar issues recently and wondered myself if this could be part of Fibro. I actually run a low fever about 99.2-99.5 F most of the time and find my body temperature jumping up and down alot. Is it possible you are starting to go through menopause? Because I think I am and I think that is why many of my symptoms are worse. I think hormones does have a big effect. Does anyone else out there who has Fibro have any problems with temperature or hot/cold flashes? If I were you, I would rule out any serious diseases with blood tests, that's what doctors usually do. Check for Lupus and other autoimmune disorders. Just to make sure. Good luck!

  • I have some fibro symtoms, including constant dizziness. I had bloodwork done and all was normal. MRI, etc normal. However, I just had blood taken for hormone checks b/c I am getting hot and cold flashes. I am beginning to think we are all under a chemical attack. If I stay away from chemicals - processed food, chemical laundry detergent, beauty products, etc. I feel better. I am not kidding. I think we are on chemical overload, there are too many of us out there with these symptoms. What do you think?

  • I think you are right about chemicals- in our diet, in products we use, etc. I am sensitive to these. I have to buy detergent with no fragrance and dyes. Soap that is pure or for sensitive skin. I dont wear perfume. I cant even walk down the "detergent" isle at the grocery store. I have heard others say the same. I would say though that I normally dont suffer from dizziness. It has only been a side effect of some medications I have been given from time to time. I cant speak for everyone with Fibro, but I am not 100% sure that dizziness is a "normal" Fibro symptom. Although having normal blood tests and normal MRI makes sense. My blood work is perfect, my blood pressure good, my cholesteral great. Every test they have ever done shows I'm healthy. On paper, I appear to be wonderfully healthy, too bad I feel like crap everyday. But that is the nature of the illness.:( There is no set list of symptoms for Fibro diagnosis, mainly because different people have different symptoms, and it may be because doctors are using it as a "catch all" for things they can figure out. They do the pertinent tests, then give up and say it is Fibromyalgia. Which is funny (not funny Ha Ha though) because 7 or 8 years ago, the doctors didn't even believe Fibromyalgia was real, and now, I think they may be using it too much. But that is just my opinion. I would really want to be very clear on my diagnosis, so have them check everything possible first before accepting this label.

  • ya know, I am late very late this month for my period. I am 35!!! Is it possible to have menopause so soon? I felt more like fever and then chills, like when your sick! I went and had blood work done again and this time most of it came out normal too! How do they find this stuff out, she did do a RH factor but I can't understand the stupid test. I have a result but it's not a positive or a negative -+ it's just a number!:( I called an old friend of mine who is a chiropractor and natural nutritionist out of desperation . He as put me on this extreme diet , which I have a shake that is made from organic food powder and I add fruit or veggies. I have to monitor my water (drink more) and I have these herbal pills to take. For once my bloating is under control and I think I might be loosing weight (I gained 30 lbs in one month) but oh it's so extreme!!!!! I guess if you've ever had the constipation or other extreme that goes along with this it's mighty nice to be regular again. But I hope this isn't life from now on! I have 5 kids, and my youngest is 3. I 'd do just about anything so I could keep up with her during the day.....but man, life without chocolate....is it worth it? lol :rolleyes:Smig

You could be peri-menopause. You could have thyroid disease and maybe not even Fibro. There are a growing number of physicians and endocrinologists who believe that Fibro is untreated thyroid disease. I happen to be one of those people who was diagnosed with Fibro only to find it wasn't that at all. I now have the proper dx after 30 plus years of suffering with one problem after another. I have hypothyroidism. All my IBS is gone. I'm losing weight. I no longer have the extreme fatigue and exhaustion I suffered with for years. I'm not 100% better, but then I just started on the correct medication for my condition less than 4 weeks ago!You might want to check out the information on thyroid disease and see if those symptoms sound familiar. To make matters more confusing, you can have both hyperthyroid and hypothyroid symptoms at the same time. Which does though account for the many varying symptoms of Fibro. And you can have alternating hypo and hyper symptoms.
