I was diagnosed with Fribro a few months ago after many tests and years of pain.
Lately I've been getting pain in my middle back - just below my bra line. (all along the T4 - T7 area I think) When I use my arms - as in cooking, cleaning, reaching for things, driving etc - it causes the pain to be worse and I get tightness in my chest. I used to think I was having some kind of heart problem but the Drs all say it's not my heart (I've seen several Drs for this)
The back Dr I went to said the back pain is from the Fibro. Does anyone else have the pain in that area? I've had MRI and xrays of my back and it shows my discs are fine.
When it hurts, it also feels swollen and tight. It hurts to lay down and to sit back against a chair.
Also, when I walk, my legs feel heavy like they're full of lead. My right foot is tingly sometimes too. And when I walk, my shoulders feel like they have bricks on them and I get tired out easy.
I've had lots of tests and all the Drs say Fibro.
I have to go for physical therapy for my back.
Anyone else do physical therapy and have the pain in that area and did it help? Any suggestions on what to do for pain?

One other thing, I have GERD, and fatty liver. Anyone have this and can give me suggestions on what to eat or not eat?

Thanks for any help

  • Hi lilcee I too have had problems in the same area as you describe, over a very long time and it has definately been down to fibro, tho one doc friend says it is a common place where people tend to suffer as a result of carrying their stress there. I find that there is some relief from massage therapy, and also from stretching exercises, the result doesn't always last for a long time, but in my books some relief, however short lived is welcome! Hope this has been a little reassurance for you that you are not alone! Muchly, Dottii

  • I commonly go to the physio or a chiropractor.. they both can really help those tights spots and sometimes the pain. (be aware that not all physios and chiropractors arent good ones.. so if you arent happy with the first, try another one).

  • I am now 70 years old and have still all the same symptoms that you have named that you have. They wax and they wane----I was diagnosed 25 years ago. I have GERD and I have a Fatty liver. A healthy diet has lowered my triglycerides, helped me lose weight and thus my FATTY liver diagnosos is almost normal. Diet is very important for a healthy digestive system. Also, I am gluten free and lactose free----my healthcare worker suggested that I go this way and it sure made a difference--even with degree of pain. Often having indigestion caused discomfort in my back. If any new symptom comes my way, I do see my doctor. I do not put everything down to Fibroymalgia---

Fatigue is a common symptom of fibro. It can get uncomfortable to lean up against things, as just the pressure of that can cause pain. That is typical of fibro pain. Just having someone press on your skin hurts.

  • Hi, Yes, What your describing is Costochondritis from Fibro. It hurts but it is harmless. Here is a link on it. http://www.fibromyalgia-symptoms.org/fibromyalgia_chest_symptoms.html
