Hello everyone. I am writing this because I am so frustrated. My husband and I are TTC for 3 months now. I really feel like the IUD has messed up my body. When should my body be back to a normal cycle. My cycle is so messed up. I got the Mirena IUD taken out on March 17. I had a small period from the 20-24. Then I had another small period from April 2-4. Then I didnt get the next one till May 6. I just got another one June 10 (today). Does it seem like my period is starting to get back to normal? It is sooooo hard to know when I am ovulating when my body is a big mess. How will I ever know? Whenever I take a prego test my hopes are up because I feel like a failure. God gave me a gift but I cant use it. I dont know. Any advice would help me through all of this. Thank you so much.

I am so sorry to hear of your problems getting pregnant since the removal of your IUD. I cannot speak specifically to that, but I also had a Mirena and can tell you that it really messed with my system as well. I had it put in not long after my first childwas born. Each month, I found that I was in a lot of pain- pretty much ached inside all the time & ironically, the most comfortable time of the month was when I had my period. I just thought that my body was just getting used to the Mirena, never having had an IUD before. However, when it was time for my next female check-up, I went in and had a PAP done and the results came back really messed up. I had had one PAP before with not quite normal results, but they had just re-done it. This time, the results were SO abnormal that I had to have a colposcopy done because they were concerned about pre-cancerous cells. Thankfully, they didn't find any pre-cancerous cells. I kept talking to my OB and he assured me that it most likely was not the Mirena as it had a VERY low incidence of problems. Finally, he said that if I was concerned, he could remove it and see if the symptoms that I was having went away. So, reluctantly I had it removed. Reluctantly, only because I had had it for a relatively short period of time & my insurance at the time had covered the whole cost minus my co-pay. I didn't have the same insurance any more so I wouldn't have been able to afford another one if I discovered that it wasn't the source of my problems. However, after it was removed, the problems that I'd been having went away- proving that the Mirena was the cause. I have since spoken to other women who had a Mirena and had to have it removed because of the problems that it caused with their female system. It was over 3 years after its removal before I tried to have another child so I don't know what would have happened if I had tried right away. After the birth of my 2nd child in '09, I now have a copper IUD (NO hormones) and have done extremely well. The only negative side effect has been VERY heavy periods. I hope you are able to get to the bottom of wat is going on and that you are able to concieve soon.

Were you having normal periods before the IUD? If you've been using one for years, it's possible that you could have developed a separate condition in the past couple years that is independent of the IUD which is causing you to not have proper regular periods. (hypothyroidism, etc etc).

You could have developed any of a number of real common things over the past couple years independent of the IUD use that's causing you to have irregular periods.
