I had my Mirena for 1yr and have had it taken out now for over 6mo. I've read the "tips on getting pregnant" web pages and taken the Ov. test -they tested positive- but still no baby!! My husband and I have a 2yr old and want to make him a lil brother or sister. I am really regretting ever using the Mirena, everyone else seems to be making babies right away and we still have had no luck, its making me more sad I'm not sure we will ever have another....Any advice from anyone????:(

  • Knowing your age would also be helpful in giving you advice. Normal healthy young couples are successful in becoming pregnant once in 12 months of trying. Provided you are both in good health and under 30 years of age, trying to concieve for up to a year before becoming successful is perfectly normal. If you are over age 30, then its time to consult with a Reproductive Endocrinologist or GYN because a woman's fertility starts to decline past age 30. Sometimes fertility problems can be as simple as your spouse changing from brief underwear to boxer shorts. Tighty whitey's can hold a man's testicles too close to his body and the heat decreases his sperm count. If his job is a high heat environment the same thing can occur. If you are in your early twenties you have plenty of time to try some different things. If you are over 30, I would see someone after 6 months of trying.

  • I first found this site when trying to figure out why it was taking forever to get pregnant after the Mirena. I had thought it was immediate, but later found it can take 3-6 months to just get your period back! Anyway, I also was trying to space my children a couple years apart and the delay after the Mirena was frustrating. However I am now 10 weeks pregnant! It took me five and a half months to get pregnant after IUD removal. So hang in there!!!
