PCOS Symptoms and My Gyno Won't Help

OK, I hope someone can help me because I am confused and scared.

I have had irregular periods since I was 25 (7 years). Yes, I have a period every month, but they are always at different times (anywhere from 26-33 days). I have asked every gyno that I have gone to for yearlys and they always assure me its totally normal.

My sister, who is a nurse brought up Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome to me last week. I didnt even know what it was. My symptoms include: irregular periods, acne, oily skin, dandruff, skin tags under my arms, weight gain around the middle, hard to lose weight, a ring of darkened brown skin on the back of my neck ( 5 years ago an MD told me I was just isuline resistant because I was fat. I have gone from 280lbs to 220lbs since then), pelvic pain, etc.

I called my gyno who saw me just three months ago who told me I was hypochondrical about my reproductive health. She told me she did not test me for it because I was not a candidate to be tested. That even though my periods are 26-33 days, I still get one every month and therefore am not irregular.

My insurance had since lapsed. I cannot get a second opinion and I am scared. I have not had children yet, and I don't want that time to come and for me to find out that I can't have them.

Can anyone out there please help me?

I was told that not getting pregnant after 6 months of trying was sufficient enough to send me for fertility testing. I didn't have PCO, though, so I can't say much about it. If you are willing to pay yourself, since your insurance has lapsed, ask to be referred to a reproductive endocrinologist since your regular GYN wil not order the tests. They specialize in infertility. Good luck!
