Where is my period?

My period was due on or around the first of the month, being that it's now the 11th, I'm quite worried. I know I'm not pregnant, and I've searched on line for answers, only to come up with the same old, "Stress" answer. I've suffered from anxiety and some obsessive compulsive behavior all my life, and it's never caused me to miss a period. I don't know why stress would start affecting me now. I've always had normal pap's, am 38, and have been pretty much like clockwork all my life. My periods have changed in the last few years, though--very crampy and heavy flow some months, no cramps, and low flow others. The doctor has said it's hormonal. Is there anyone out there, that has just missed a period for no reason at all? If it helps--my skin has been a mess for about a month--totally broken out. But, now that I'm late-it's perfectly clear. What is going on?

  • Ah, hormones:(...it sounds like they are out of balance for sure. Are you currently taking any medications at all including OTC meds? Were you sick last month? Were you taking any medications like antibiotics? Any other changes - moving, job changes, relationship issues, anything at all? This can cause your period to change and even if you don't feel stressed if there is any change in your life it can affect your cycle. Please consider trying acupuncture to help regulate your periods. Try to find a practitioner who specializes in Women's Health. This would be very effective! Best wishesDOM

  • hi!i have missed a couple periods here and there, and everyone tells me not to worry. stress can do it, and sometimes as we get older, our periods change anyway.i am 26, and have medium periods with moderate pain, every 24-32 days.when i was in my teens, i had heavy ones, horrible pain, EXACTLY every 31 days. never missed a single one, now i miss one a year.mention it at your next gyno, but i wouldn't worry!!!

  • Hi, mid to late thirties is not uncommon for perimenopause...hormonal ups and downs....can last quite a few years until menopause (I started about then and believe me didn't realize all my strange symtpoms were hormonal!)...check out www.power-surge.com (noncommercial) and see the info and 34 symptoms of menopause and perimenopause... and a great forum. • I agree with Joan5555. Sounds like peri-menopause symptoms. I was 38 when I began to have symptoms. My periods became more painful with flooding. Then they started to skip a month. Warm flashes started. Had my last period when I was 44. It just stopped completely. I used a product called Remifemin (black cohosh) for hot flashes that my doctor of oriental medicine prescribed for me, but you can buy it over the counter now. I had really good luck with it. I think I used it for 4 or 5 years and then stopped. Never a problem.
