Trich and Hot Tubs

I'm not a naive idiot, but I really want a real answer. (Searching online gives me conflicting information.) 5 weeks ago I was at a hotel and spent a lot of time in the hot tub and pool. About 2 and a half weeks later, I started getting a weird discharge and itching. I just went to the doctor's and found out I have trich. Could I have contracted it from the hotel pool or hot tub? I have not had sex in over 2 months, so I'm curious. Thanks so much!

  • I don't think so; I know you can get other stuff, but you may have gotten it from your last experience; they also say you can get it from undercooked meat. Maybe the heat brought it to the surface.

  • Technically - no. To get trich from a non-sexual encounter, you would have to rub your crotch on a fresh (meaning wet) spot that someone had just rubbed their crotch on.That being said - if a hot tub isn't kept hot enough (and hotel ones are notoriously not), then there can be organisms that live in them and can pass from one person to another. Pseudomonas is one of those - the bacteria can live and infect hot tubbers - rash, etc... So theoretically, it is faintly possible that you were in a not tub with a woman who had trich and got it, but it is unlikely. It was probably from your last sexual encounter.

  • Okay, here's the problem. I've been having sex with only one person for the last 4 years. He was tested, but it came back negative. Of course, I believe he was with someone and gave it to me. He thinks I was with someone, which I definitely wasn't. Now it's just a big fight, and we haven't spoken since I found out. Again, I'm not stupid; however, I need to know if I could've transmitted it from the hot tub. Also, how long could I have had it before the symptoms showed up? Could he have been carrying it even though he tested negative, and if so, for how long? Thanks!
