for well well over a year now ive had a problem with painful intercourse, i have been with my partner over 4 years and before this started had a perfectly fine sex life, no pain at all.
but then i started getting a sore pain, as if his penis is too big for me and my skin at the very bottom of the vaginal opening is almost splitting it is so sore, we have tried lubricants and i am not tense at the time, even the doctor when examining says she does not think i have a problem with tensing up. i have been tested so many times for all STI's (new i wouldnt have them anyway) thrush, which now seems like everytime i do actually try and have sex i get anyway. the thrush isnt always positive. i have tried loads of creams and pessarys, and oral tablets for thrush, im either immune or i dont have thrush. recently tried trimovate (i think it was called that) didnt work.
ive seen a specialist at the GUM clinic and she found cells showing inflammation but nothing else, she gave me more thrush stuff.
i do have a discharge most of the time, one doctor keeps telling me she thinks i have BV but the test was negative, another says thrush, but the discharge isnt always that heavy, and i cant even remember now if i had the discharge befor ethis all started its been so long. do have slight itching now and again also. but not sure if its related.
i dont think its vulvodynia because its only on intercourse, not particular when speclum is inserted or with manual emaminations, its just with full intercourse.
im started to think im going crazy and my partner is ready to break up with me its become such a problem, we rarely have sex anymore.
whats wrong with me? im sick of going to the dctors and with no results

  • get a blood test for herpes 2 and get a pap to rule out hpv...you probably got something from him...make him go for a std screening, too...

  • I have this exact problem! I've been with my partner for 5 years now - and had no problems with sex until about 2 years ago. I started getting more discharge than normal and at the same time sex began being painful. It feels like his penis is too big, and there is painful burning around the vaginal opening (but not deeper inside). It is too painful to have sex. All tests for STIs are negative, and I have tried treatment for BV and yeast infections (even though there were no signs of these in lab tests, the doctors thought it was worth a try), but neither have made a difference. The doctors agree that I have a lot of discharge but say it seems "healthy" and there is no sign of infection or other problems. I also have no pain during exams or when inserting tampons or even if I insert a finger or 2 - only when I try to insert something bigger like my partner's penis. We too have tried lube - it helps a tiny bit but the pain still prevents sex from being enjoyable. It is incredibly frustrating!! Any potential diagnoses or fixes would be greatly appreciated!

  • oh thank god there is someone else like me - lol, sorry, for me happiness in you having it too but i thought i was going crazy and just imagining it all! well the next thing my doc is going to rule out is PID if this medicine for my IBS (which isnt related to the pain on intercourse) dosnt work - thats because ove been getting some pelvic pain which probably isnt related to the painful intercourse but im just hoping it is so that this isnt something new ive got to put up with. in a way if it was a PID atleast i would know what it is, but then if it is then ive had it like going on for 2 years and am probably infertile! so either way it wouldnt be great. thing is i dont get the pain depper either, just the entrance, so i dont think that tallys up with PID when they check for that i think they are going to send me for a scan, but ive got to wait weeks yet to use my antispasmodics first. have you ever had scans or blood tests for it? i had blood done for something i think is unrelated, which was feeling exhausted all the time and generally unwell. came back my IgM which is within a test called immunoglobins has been slighly elevated for months. which means it could have been like that constantly all the time ive had this and as they cant find a more srious reason for it i think it can indicate infection, so thats why the consultant advised my GP to rule out PID when he looked at all my symptoms over the time that i had been going to the GPS he thought it should be checked. atleast ive gt some hope for now :/ however little! if you want to email me to chat my email is soph.weller@googlemail.com it would be really good to have someone to talk to about it who understands! been driving me mad.

  • get the blood test for herpes 2, a pap for hpv and a test for syphilis. Make the man get the same tests at your county std clinic, too.

Hi Soph, http://forums.wrongdiagnosis.com/showthread.php?p=120995&posted=1#post120995 It's your other symptoms that sparked my recognition. Look at our symptoms list on the thread above. Funcional b12 deficiencies could cause most if not all of your symptoms. It's an easy hypothesis to test as results can be very quick with the right kinds of b12 and cofactors. All kinds of irritated and inflamed tissues can result. IBS and abnormal fatigue are two major symptoms.

  • Any luck or progress so far? None for me! :( Hopefully you are doing better! I'm going to the doctor in a few weeks, so thought I'd see if you or your docs have come up with any ideas...

  • hia, well i had another GUmed appointment and i just keep getting given antibiotics, shes sure its a non specific infection even though no tests ever show it, yet she says it still could be endometriosis, so if these antibiotics dont work she told me to see my GP and ask to be refered to a gynacologist at the hospital because to rule out endo you have to have a laproscopy. i need to go to the doctors this week though because i had some other antibiotics that i was given and was waiting for my scan results as to wether i should take them or not, so i need to know which ones i should take to maximise the chance that they might work. i dont wanna take them all, got three different ones! i just feel fobbed off being given antibiotics when there is no physical sign of infection on tests. had a hard week, its been getting me down again, i just want to be normal!

  • In college, a group of my friends and I who were student teaching, all developed this same problem. It turned out we were all religiously taking Ecinacea to prevent getting sick. Yet you were only supposed to take it for a maximum of a week. The point being, sometimes, even herbal supplements can be harmful if not taken properly. It may be something you could look into to see if that might be a cause.Best of luck in finding the solution!
