Hi, i'm a 17 year old female and i've been having some trouble with my eyes. At least i think it's my eyes.

I can pinpoint it to when i was in a small jewellery shop and as i walked in i remember thinking, "oh these lights aren't so good" then the longer i was in this shop the dizzier i began to feel. I got really hot and eventually i was pretty much blind and i couldn't hear anything but i was too embaressing to rush out the shop (rolls eyes!) but in the end i just had to feel my way out the shop and get some air. It took about an hour for those symptoms to disappear.

Since then, certain types of light have set off similar symptoms to the extent i just have to get out the room but it's never been quite so bad as the first time.

I just really want to know what might be causing this and whether i should be at the doctors or not, it's really holding me back in things. Really frustrating.

Any help would be much appreciated!
Tess

  • Tell your parents and get to the doctor immediately. I do not know what is causing this, but it could be a medical emergency. And do not drive a car. If this came on suddenly, it could cause injury to you or someone else. Please do not delay. You could be in medical danger, such as the permanent loss of your eyesight or worse. Please come back to this site and let us know how you are after seeing a doctor.Beth

  • your symptoms sound like panic attacks. I suffer from them, and so does my mum who first started having them when going into shops especially supermarkets with very bright lights. When I have a panic attack it feels as if I am going blind, I see both a bright light and black dots that makes me feel as if I am going blind. I also have trouble hearing, as if my ears have gone numb and are ringing incessantly. I also feel dizzy too, depending on the severity of the attack.

  • If it is a panic attack it might be psychological, like what happens to Tony Soprano in The Saprano's Mafia series,,he had the symtoms you described but he used to pass out and he discribed symptoms like white dots in his field of vision, maybe somthing underlying causing panic attacks,,maybe a anxiety problem involving crowds of people,,but i am not a doctor of any sort to give a diagnosis so keep working with your GP,,it might have somthing to do with the lights also maybe somthing neourological,,what did the neourologist say??? also..does anybody in your family have Multiple Sclorosis?? im sure you were asked this already it is a nerve condition which could affect the eyes do you experiance any numbness in any part of your body??,,sorry if i wasnt much help, dont give up
