Why Does my son hold food or drink up to one eye?

My son, who is 20 now, has a multitude of symptoms that are bizarre, but one of them is to hold food or drink up to one eye in an upward motion...right next to the eye, then he will resume eating or drinking it. There is suspected brain involvement in his case. Does anybody know what this could be? Thanks!
