Visual snow and a link to hormones?

I have been on antidepressants for 10 years (Wellbutrin) and I've also take Trazodone every night for 11 years to go asleep and stay asleep.

14 months ago, my OBGYN yanked me off of birth control pills mid-pack. Five days later, I had the 2nd worst migraine of my life with horrible visual symptoms.

EVERY day since, 24/7 I have had VISUAL SNOW.

I just found out about it today. Up until now for over a year, I've been telling my husband I see what a snowy TV screen looks like, along with sparkles, bright flashes, etc.

Even though my eyes aren't better, I feel relieved to know what it's officially called and that other people have this, too. I thought I was the only one!

Has anyone else with VS had a link to stopping birth control pills like I did?

Has anyone else out there been on anti-depressants and presrciption sleep aids long term like I have?

I am searching desperately to find some sort of commonality here!

~Kim

However, to me it seems to have the best success with getting rid seem to be those who ignore it, I maybe check the site a bit too much. I have had VS for about 7 months. It does not correlate with any drugs or medicines for me but I did have 3 day headache before it started and do have problems with anxiety. There is a thread for peoples stories on the yuku site and you may find some people with similar experiences on there.Jo

  • HI: I am going thru perimenopause and I was also on half dose of Celexa and Trazadone for several years. I had a 2 week headache, which is when my VS, vertigo, tinnitus, pain in head and spinal cord, after images, light sensitivity set in. I have conquored some of these symptoms over the last 2 years, but the VS, after images, light sensitivity, and tinnitus remain. I am off all meds and I still have the problems but I am taking CoQ10, magnesium, riboflavin to see if it will help. One theory about our condition is that we have "persistent migraine aura without headache"....maybe a possibility in your case? The coQ10, magnesium, and riboflavin is one combo that might reduce migraines so I am trying it. It needs to be tried for 3 months before any effects can be seen. Hope this helps

  • Wow, I have tinnitus and vs is really difficult it's so nice to talk to people who understand how it feels, I have been depressed/anxious since last summer and it devrloped then, feels as if I am noticing vs more now just need to conquer it somehow! I have to admit it holds me back sometimes
