Vision problems and pain

I am having serious problems with my eyes. I have convinved myself that my problems are due to a solar eclipse in 1999, although a cloudy day and having eyes checked by a hospital specialist immediately afterwards who assured me I had not done any damage, they have never been the same since and have convinced myself that I am going to lose my sight, however, having read some of the messages on here wonder if something else is the cause of this.

Either eye can be painful, sore and sometimes a dull ache and I think is more from behind the eye than in it. They cannot deal with lights, especially at night. The effect I have, I can only describe as a bright star with beams of light coming off of the central light. Images do embed on my eyes and if reading from white paper and then move eye to bright plain background, image will remain there for a few seconds. Eyes are checked regularly but nobody ever finds anything wrong.

  • what you are describing, as far as visual phenomena go, are normal. so the good news is that you're not going blind. the dull ache is most likely dryness. if the solar eclipse (or supernova for that matter) was completely obscured by clouds, then you could not have damaged your eyes from it.those who tend to have symptoms similar to what you describe can have these brought on by medications, stress, anxiety and depression.
