Hi- I am unalbe to fully close my eyes while sleeping and this is causing my eyes to be very dry. I have been told that while sleeping my eyes kind of flicker and I possibly sqiunt my eyes as a way to try and shut them. Not sure why this suddenly started happening but I started using an anti wrinkle cream last year so maybe this could have something to do with it? I have tried wearing eye masks to bed but they don't seem to really work. Any ideas on what this might be called?

  • Have you used Botox recently? That can be a side effect.Taping your eyes was good advice, and I have acquaintances with severe dry eye who use the thick OTC eye ointments (as opposed to the watery eye drops) at bedtime and then tape their eyes. They also swear by the nutritional supplements for dry eyes.

You can get TED with both Grave's Disease and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. The tests should include:TSHFree T3Free T4Thyroid Antibodiesand moreFor more information, you might look at the following website:http://www.freewebs.com/thyroidThere's a link to a supportive forum on the website.I have the same problem and have Hashimoto's.

  • Well I have been using anti-wrinkle cream around my eyes for about a year. I swear that must be what it is b/c I know I don't have a thyroid condition or Grave's disease. Thanks for the info. That must be it!

That must be it!I assume by your post that you've been tested for thyroid disease and have seen an ophthalmologist?Try reading about the anti-wrinkle cream on the internet and see what if any side effects it has. If it doesn't have the ones you mentioned, don't hesitate to see a qualified ophthalmologist. Dry eyes can cause many problems, some of them permanent such as loss of sight.
