Tearing in the right eye

My right eye frequently lacrimates. I dont know the conditions that triggers it off. Sometimes I go a whole day without lacrimating, at other times I have a tissue always at the ready to dab away the tears. It is worse when the weather is cold and windy or if it is very sunny.

Sir Raya.

  • I have the exact same problem!! It's my right eye and worse in the cold or wind too. My eye doctor said "it's allergies" and didn't seem concerned. I went to my regular doctor and he prescribed antibiotic eye drops (didn't do anything) and steroid eye drops (helped a little, but not much). It's been going on for almost 6 months and it's getting REALLY annoying. People keep asking me why I'm crying! If anyone has any advice or experience with this, I (we) could really use your help.

  • you both describe "reflex tearing" in which an irritant stimulates excessive lacrimation. the most common irritant is dryness, such as when wind blows in the eyes. cold air will be worse because there is less ambient humidity.the reason steroid drops might help somewhat is that they can help improve secretions from the meibomian glands (at the edge of the eyelids) which provide a protective coating of your natural tears and help prevent evaporative loss. my guess is that if your doctor measured your "tear breakup time", it would be fairly low. then they could go about finding a better way to treat the problem...

  • i am suffering from the same irritating problem with my right eye. it tears up every morning and lasts for a few hours and usually stops somewhat through the day. however, it returns each morning. always the right eye. left eye is fine. very strange. there is also some itching associated with the tearing. i'm constantly grabbing for tissue and i fear that i will worsen the problem by rubbing the eye too much. i do have allergies, as well as some sinus issues, which obviously doesn't help, but why the issue with the right eye only? any idea what could be the cause or how to treat? thank you.

  • Hi! My right eye tears, too. Mostly the right one. But occasionally the left one. If this helps my eye dr said I have dry eyes and gave me a prescription for restasis. It's very costly so if It's not bad I just use a tissue and hope I don't wreck my mascara.:D

  • Sorry it's me again. Does anyone have problems with floaters in the eyes. They are really annoying. My eye dr. said no problem but with sarcoidosis I have read that one of the symptoms in your eyes are floaters. But really don't have a clue. I have had sarcoid since the late '80's but with my lungs, liver, and kidneys. But not the eyes (yet). And everytime I go to a dr it seems I get diagnosed with something else. And yes I have had 2nd or 3rd opinions with my diagnosis so I think I am pretty safe there.

I visited two different doctors and they have not been able to identify the cause of the problem, they said my eyes are fine. Has anyone found a solution to this problem? Thank you, Rafael.

  • I just know there are a few status that will cause your lachrymation:too much time on staring screen with radiation; maybe you have the developed and strong tear duct; sometimes I know there's a natural and common phenomenon just like going to stool, your eyes need to cleaned itself, no more strangersall about eyes

  • I am having the same problem. Both my eyes tear so bad it is getting very annoying. I went to the specialist today and he said there is nothing wrong and that it is allergies. How frustrating. There are days driving to work that I can barely see for the tears running down my cheeks. I have not changed anything in my daily routine to warrant an allergy. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.My right eye frequently lacrimates. I dont know the conditions that triggers it off. • I also am having the same problem, it has been going on for the past 2 weeks. The doctor gave me eye drops but he is not sure what is wrong with my eyes..So strange :/Hey this is the same person. I took one of those drops (alomide) that evening, and it caused me to have a severe reaction. I spent the night in the hospital and the doctor there told me I had a allergic reaction to the eye drops and to ice and use benadryl to reduce the swelling..but he still did not say what the main cause of my tearing was. Over the weekend the swelling continued and pain started to rise and redness. The swelling spread a little to my cheeks and around my eye, instead of being focused at the lower eyelid sinus area. This morning I went to the doctor and he saw that the main reason behind the tearing up was that I had a broken tear duct. He also concluded that the Alomide drops further clogged the tear duct, allowing the fluids to collect and form into a cyst. I was given a prescription for Clindamycin, a strong antibiotic which will hopefully clear this cyst!

  • I have the same issue with my right eye last few years. It seems it got something to do with cold air. When my face is exposed to very cold air during hiking, running or motorcycling, tears come out continuously. However, this symptom disappears as soon as I enter warm indoors. It seems low temperature is doing something to my facial muscle or tear duct. Irritating issue.

And also throw normal cold water in your eyes in early morning.
