I was looking for a thread dealing with this but have not found one. Feel free to point me in the right direction.

I have severe dry eye, such that I wake up every hour or so to put artificial tears in. For sime reasin this works better than the ointment.

This has been going on for several years with some days that my eyes are completely bloodshot. Some days they have actual hemmorages. But all days, they are painfully dry.

Has anyone tried scleral lenses?
What all have you tried and has anything helped you?

  • Artificial tears are used to keep hard and soft contact lenses moist in the eye, so that they float in the tear film and do not scratch or dry out. In short it can be said that they are used for improvement in lens wearing comfort. So using artificial tears for dry eye needs little attention. It is better to consult your vision correction surgeon for more instructions.

  • See an ophthalmologist who can put punctal plugs in for you. There are two components to tears. One is watery liquid and the other is a lubricant. Only an ophthalmologist can tell you which you are lacking. They can also tell you which drops will work the best for your condition. If punctal plugs won't stay in they can numb the eyes and gently scar the ducts closing them permanently. That is going to be my next choice because I keep loosing my plugs. Leaving the eyes to go dry is not only painful, which you are already aware of but it can lead to worsening vision problems and place a person at risk for infection.
