Right eye loses vision for few seconds

Every so often, maybe once every two weeks, I'll be walking or doing something and my right eye will sort of fade to black, stay without vision for a few seconds and then fade back in to full vision. When this happens I get a sort of weird numbness feeling and have to stop whatever I am doing. Any ideas of what it could be?

It occurs pretty randomly. First, the color of everything I saw will sorta become "brighter", the kind of like "high contrast" , then it goes to pitch black. Then, the vision of my right eye turns black and it stays black for usually no more than 1 minute. After that the vision will go back to normal. Anyone has any idea? I've been to the optometrist but she doesn't know what's the problem and wanted me to look for a brain neurologist instead. =_=
