Optic Neuritis and Sarcoidosis

It started in Aug when I got very blurry vision in my left eye. I went to a few drs and was diagnosed with retrobulbor neurites. My mri had come back clear so the drs suggested I wait it out.

In the middle of November my right eye started doing the same thing. As my left eye had not really healed I had a real hard time for a while without 2 seeing eyes. I went back to the drs who did another mri and this time it showed my inflamed nerves as well as white-matter in my brain.

Now my drs started worrying about ms. I went to a neurologist who did a full exam and ordered a slew of blood tests of things that can mimic ms. At the same time I started developing some new symptoms such as tiredness, lack of energy, lack of appetite. The neuro suggested I see my reg dr for those symptoms.

Bottom line the ace levels test came out high as well as the liver test my reg dr took. I was thinking Epsteins Barr but that was negative. The chest xray was clear.

In the past few weeks I started to develop new symptoms. My voice is hoarse as well as sometimes mild and sometimes worse joint/muscle pains in my feet, legs, hands, and arms.

My drs are thinking sarcoidosis. I'm waiting on the results of a chest/abdomen CT scan.

Is there anybody else that has gone thru a similar situation? Any advice, comments, or commiserations?

  • It's probably sarcoidosis - the chest CT is a good test (much better than chest XRay) for this. have your ophthalmologist look for conjunctival granulomas...
