One eye red, not irritated

For the past 3 or 4 weeks my left eye has been red. The funny thing is the sclera is only red to the outside of the iris. It's like the redness hugs the iris and then branches out towards corner of my eye. I have no itching, burning, watering, etc. It's just red. I have changed my contacts, contacts case and solution, make-up, etc. Nothing works. I currently am not wearing my contacts to see if it clears up that way. So far it's not working. Is this just a form of conjunctivis without the irritation or could it be something more serious? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • you are describing a ciliary reaction which generally indicates inflammation of the cornea or inside of the eye (uveitis). stopping the contacts is a good idea and you should get this checked.

  • I have the same exact problem and I have a tendency to get somewhat frequently. All of the doctors I have been to have been unable to properly diagnose the problem. One doctor said it was a scratched cornea, another said it was eye allergies, another said it was a small abnormality in my eye that needed to be surgically removed, and another said it was something else (I don't remember what it was called, but she prescribed an eye drop called Nevanac, it seemed to be the most effective but the problem seemed to just go away with time). I do not wear contacts or anything of that nature so I'm still fairly confused as to why this happens to me.
