Is it normal to see double of lights?

Most of the time, it's too blurry to make it out, but with my glasses I see double of lights going vertical. Example: When I'm driving, and a car passes me, at first the break lights are normal looking, but as the car moves further away they quickly stretch into double. One extra break light below. Never horizontal.
At night, even with glasses, it is really hard to make out reflective and construction signs which becomes distracting and sometimes very nerve wracking if you're at a construction sight!
I'm nearsighted and I've been told that I have astigmatism. Could that be the cause of this problem?

  • Hi,Do you only see double of lights or do you see double of everything? In case it's only lights, there's nothing to worry. I guess light can get refracted and seem to appear double. If you're experiencing the double image all the time, then I guess you should consult your doctor.Jimmy
