  • I used to get those quite frequently when I was in my 20s and 30s. Fortunately, my grandmother had worked for an ophthalmologist for 25 plus years. She told me that it was a sty type thing and that somehow a lash got embedded into the upper lid on the inside. She suggested hot compresses to lay over your closed eyes. Sometimes after doing the compress several days in a row, about 3 times a day, the bump would soften, and a lash would appear, my grandmother or I would use tweezers to remove the lash. It sounds like you have a sty in you lower lid. There are ointments for stys that you can buy over the counter at a drug store or at the health and beauty aid section of Wal-Mart or Target. If you're having chronic stys, you can get your primary care physician to write you a prescription for an antibiotic ointment, which I did when I was in my 20s and 30s, and kept it on hand because I was either having chronic conjunctivitis (also called "pink eye") or chronic stys. Hope this helps.
