What does it mean when you get halos and streaks around lights suddenly - that you didnt get before

because i only had an eye exam last Nov my mother says its impossible for anything to go wrong so quickly - but i think something is wrong

my mums attitude makes me upset - i'm getting halos/streaks around lights that didnt have halos before and she thinks it's ok cause lights can cause halos (even ones that didn't just a few weeks ago apparently!)

i cant find anything online on exactly what it could be - just having sudden halos and streaks and long distance vision is seeming to get worse - any help would be appreciated.

  • if you look in the mirror in bright light can you see if you pupil is round? i have been diagnosed with essential iris atrophy (ICE). i see rainbow halos and lightning bolt streaks. but you can see a mishaped iris in the bright light. which by the way also bothers you.. anyhow it might be something to ask about. i does need to be looked at because it does turn into glaucoma and you can loose your eyesight if it goes untreated. They don't know what causes it and it is rare. hope this helps.

If so this is called an Aura with migraine. Alot of people will get an aura or halo or streaks right before they get a migraine headache..it's their bodie's way of warning them or telling them of the oncoming event. You might consider a neurologist as well to make sure there are no nerve issues playing a part in your symptoms. Also don't go to an optometrist..see an opthamologist. Optometrist are strictly for corrective visions whereas the opthamologist are specialized in all diseases and disorders of the eyes.
