I recentl have noticed that upon waking, especially when I blink, I see flashes of light. THese flashes seem to occur for only a few minutes (1-2) and then I don't notice them for the rest of the day. They seem to occur only upon waking, while I"m laying down, generally as I'm starting to move my head to get up. I notice them when I blink. My wife had detached retinas several years ago, and indicated that I should look into this. Any suggestions?? Thanks, Dave

Thanks, DaveFlashes can indicate that the vitreous is separating from where it is attached at the retina. This is an entirely normal process that happens to everyone. In a very small proportion of patients the separation can result in a tear in the retina, which may require laser treatment to weld the hole closed, or surgery if the retina has detached.See an Ophthalmologist, reasonably soon, then you can be reassured.
