Eyes uneven, seeing white under eyeball

Comparing my eyes, I am seeing more white in the right eye, about a 1cm difference. It just looks really weird when looking downward to have one eye showing some white below the eyeball and the other eye doesn't. Would I need eye surgery to correct this? Could this be thyroid disease?
