Hi,

Im new here would massively be grateful for advice and stories on anyone in a simiar situation to me or anyone who has had the eye whitening with Dr Kim or Dr Klein. Think ive posted this twice by accident actually.

I have lots of single broken blood vessels rather than the red eye look which i see in most peoples pictures. They happened when I was accidently sort of strangeled back in April in a totally innocent accident but my eyes were left with little red veins that never cleared up. I had my eyes checked with the hospital and my eyes are otherwise healthy.

I'm really struggling because non of my pictures are showing up enough for the doctors to dtermine if im suitable! So annoying.

I'm in the Uk and just started to properly look into this and finding it hard to find any reasuurance in the UK!. Everyone i have talked to about this thinks im nuts plus I contacted a few of the highest orphalmic surgeons in the UK who were all really negative about the idea.

Has anyone on here just got lots or even a few single vessels they want to remove or have had removed?. I saw a post on here where a lady did and Dr Kim said he could remove them and she wouldnt have to use the MMC drops. The MMC drops terrifies me does anyone actually know how safe they are?.

I have to say though Dr Kim sounds a unbelieveably reputable and advanced Dr. Hes been amazing at getting back to my emails which has really surprised me as he must be so busy.

Has anyone had this with Shawn Klein in NY?. I have found him harder to contact which massively puts me off having treatment with him but the travel to NY from the UK would be so much easier and a bit cheaper. I am quite scared of the idea of travelling alone from the UK to Seoul.

I'd be so so grateful of anyones advice or stories or anything to do with this treatment or these doctors or if you are in a similar situation to me. Esp people in the UK. I didnt like the sound of Dr Wachers outcomes plus his prices are ridiculous.

I feel a bit stuck now as I dont want to keep sending emails and pestering the Drs but I still dont feel i know enough about this procedure. Plus I would have to seriously save before I could afford it anyway. My pictures wont come out clear enough for Dr Kim either so I'm going to have to get round that problem some how.

Please post back.

Best Wishes,
Gemma.

  • Gemma, I happened to come across your posting by complete mistake. I was searching the forums trying to find some information that Dr. Kim posted a few months ago and the search showed your posting. I just wanted you to know that so many people can relate to your posting and that if you'd post it over at this link: http://forums.wrongdiagnosis.com/showthread.php?t=817 - you'd get a lot more people seeing it.About your pictures - I had that exact problem too, trying to send my pictures to Dr. Kim. Finally, the way I got it to work was that I used the macro setting on my camera. The kind of camera makes a difference too. Both of my cameras are old and cheap, compared to today's cameras. But, the one that did not work was a Sony Cybershot and the one that did work was a Fuji Finepix. He said if you can't get good pictures, you should just go to an eye doctor and have them take some with their equipment.Well, I hope to see you on the other red vein forum!

I guess you went through Spire?

  • Hi,Nice to actually hear from someone who is actually!. Take it you are in the UK too?. In regards to the Drs I contacted I just googled the best ones, I had a list of about ten but I've got rid of it. I only heard back from two in London the rest never replied. Neither were very positive about cosmetic eye whitening. What are your eyes like?. Do you have single broken vessels rather than just general redness?. I've been trying to find people who had had the cosmetic eye whitening done but it's really hard. A lot seemed to have had it done last year and dissapeared. I've been in contacted with Dr Kim in Korea and he said he can shrink episcleral vessels, my question and his answer inc a picture of what result you can expect were posted on his cosmetic eye whitening website.I'm definitely going to get a private appointment in the next couple of weeks with someone at Nuffiled, Spire or Bupa and get some more advise and get some close pictures to send Dr Kim. The only thing is I know the private hospitals are prob going to say nothing can be done and the eye whitening is ridiculous as thats the response most doctors seem to have!. I don't know about you but it's massively effecting my confidence then to top it all off a group of teenagers said something about my eyes in Sainsburys yest which has mad me feel even more paranoid. Have you looked into the eye whitening as a treatment?. What do you think about it?. I don't think there is any hope of anyone being able to do anything in the UK from the sounds of it.Be good to hear from you, I felt like the only one going through this in the UK.Hope to hear from you soon,Gem.

  • Hi Gallgadh,I contacted a few from London clinics that I had googled. I can't remember who they were now sorry. Only two got back out of about ten. I'd only contacted them to ask about eye whitening , neither were too positive about it. In hindsight I should asked about removeing episcleral vessels or shrinking them too but I forgot. Are you looking into removing episcleral vessels too?. I haven't been o any private hospitals yet but I will in the next couple of weeks as i'm so fed up with these blood vessels now.Have you been looking into eye whitening too?. I've done loads of research and it's obvious Dr Kim in Korea is the safest option but when you look at the possible complications on his website it has totally put me off now. I just don't know what to do.Hope this actually gets posted ive done about three and none have been put up which is totally annoying!.Gem.

  • HI Gallaghd, I am new here but I'm in a similar postion. I have had contact with London Opthamology hospital who have actually said they may be able to surgically remove broken veins. They have to see me first so I'll prob go in the next few months. It would be a lot easier than travelling to Korea although I feel my eyes might benefit from the full eye whitening procedure that Dr Kim does. Wish I could speak to omeone who has had the surgery with him though first.

  • Hi Jax, What were your eyes like before surgery, what kind of veins did you have in your eyes?. Did you go to Dr Kim?. What country are you in?. I'm really struggling with my confidence because of my eyes I just don't know which way to go at the moment. Are you going to post pictures of before and after on here?. Would be brilliant if you did. I want he eye whitening but then i read about patients getting restricted strabismus, sven patients and it has put me off again. I wouldnt be able to afford to fly back to Seoul time and time again. Please reply, Debs x

  • Hi to both of you Only just saw your replies :) Yeah I've looked at the eye whitening surgeries. I'm put off by the cost though and also sceptical why there isn't a doctor in Europe who performs it. My eyes aren't too bad really, but I would really like to get rid of one or two veins. Have either of you saw an opthalmologist yet? I've been intending to for a while, but I just know I'm going to end up paying £200 for a 10 min chat with them to say there is nothing they can do :(

  • Hi, I have just come across this thread (March 2012). I realise it is an old thread now but can anyone give any updates as to the chances of anyone in the UK offering this treatment in the near future? I am in the UK and don't want to travel to Korea or LA for the treatment. Any further news on UK clinics offering this would be greatly appreciated.

  • I had this done years ago when they did it on insurance. Once they found the cosmetic value, a doctor patented the idea as his own. Mine was done by a Dr. Lore, who is now retired but once practiced in east meadow ny He cut out the brown spots in my eyes and they were so white and clear afterwards. 20 years later, from being in the sun too much, the brown spots appeared in different areas. Now, I see it's no longer done on insurance! This sucks. Theyre making a big deal out of a quick easy surgery that my old doctor did on my insurance. I really liked my eyes for those 20 years though, it was great. My eyes were so white and clear but I'm in the sun too much and they got the brown sun spots again. It's so worth the money though. I'm gonna do it again
