For the past 6 months my 10 year old boy has been complaining of distortion in depth perception. It usually occurs in the evening when he is tired. Things appear far away when actually close. We've taken him to the optometrist however he has 20 / 20 vision - she said there isn't anything wrong. He continues to suffer the condition daily. I can't find any answers on the internet - any suggestions?

  • Rebecca, Our daughter is six and has also been complaining of the same thing. She says it happens when the teacher is reading a long story, her vision becomes distorted, close is far and far is close. She says she'll rub her eyes and shake her head, but it won't shake away but will go away sometimes quick, sometimes what must be a minute. No headaches, dizzyness, vomiting, floaters, pain. Just distortion. We had her eyes checked twice, dialated once, and her vision was fine. But today, at the pediatricians office, she was 20/45 and 20/50 and still complians of distorted vision. We are going to an opthamologist (after she sees the optometrist again - he's very good). It may most likely be her diet and excercise - it's not the greatest. She does not watch much TV (one hour on a Saturday)But she does need to eat more fruits and vegetables. She is active on the weekends and is in an active kindergaten class - mostly walking and running.I'd like to hear more about your son's experience and health habits.BethFor the past 6 months my 10 year old boy has been complaining of distortion in depth perception. • Hi RebeccaI wonder if your son might be developing Amblyopia? I have had this condition since i was a year old and a marked sign of it, along with a turned eye or eyes, is a lack or decrease in depth perception.Maybe ask his dr if that's a possibility or ask for a referral to a pediatric eye surgeon.
